*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

One thing that would make ganking less prevalent and less of an annoyance would be to ensure that the higher level or more powerful player can't so easily chase you down - they usually have faster mounts and a crap-load of skills that stun or slow you. The idea of a much more powerful foe in the vicinity that you've got to be wary of is pretty cool, but given that you have no hope in combat you should at least be given a headstart in getting away if they do spot you and intend to kill you.

If you are going about your business questing and you get snuck up on and killed, it's your fault for not paying attention to your surroundings. If you are on your low level mount / on foot running towards your next destination and you see a faster-moving high level coming up on you, the only way to avoid being obliterated is a quick hearthstone or logging out of the game. That's the kind of thing that shouldn't be "just another risk of a PvP server".

I haven't given any thought to how it would actually be done, mind.

So why did you pick a PvP server when you played WoW? Didn't you realize you were open to being jumped if you gamed on a PvP server? Its PvP for crying out loud, what else did you expect on a PvP sever? People kowtowing in front of you before they fight you?

PvP all the way, ganking, ganking and more ganking, town raids, griefing whatever, bring it on, its more fun then questing. I just hope there is an area that will be similar to Southshore and Tareen Mill, thats where the real world PvP started in WoW.

If OCUK go Empire, I will be making certain that I will have all you Imperial scum on my hitlist.

Actually when I first played wow I was a newbie to mmo's, I think I remember me and my friends joining a pvp server for first few months, we hated it and then we moved to pve...I didnt even know what pvp and pve was about until I played wow because I hadnt had any past experience with it...I didnt understand any of that stuff...so quite a simple explanation for you.

After that I played on PVE server for 4 years and never looked back....I didnt even like doing battlegrounds or anything like that.

I dont know why PVP people find it hard to understand that some people dont like PVP...I just play mmo's for community and to raid, thats it...without raids, there is no mmo for me.

There's as many of us PvP'ers who don't have to attack every under-levelled weakling when we see them, and prefer more 'level' playing fields. You can level up just fine on PvP servers, and the added complications of player attacks make it more entertaining. but don't expect to level in the busiest areas on a full pvp server, that way madness lies.

He's right about the whining though. Best not do that, it only encourages us to remember your name & make sure you whine again next time ;)

Some people like to play these games with an added element of danger - but not to the point where you are regularly "slaughtered" by gangs of people.

I'm going to go back to UO (mainly because it was the first, but was one of, if not the best MMORPG).
In UO you had danger from "monsters" - the further a field you went the more dangerous the environment and the harder the fight.
Also as soon as you left the protection of town you could be attacked by others.
The important word here is "could".
It didn't mean that whenever you set foot out of town you were immediately "ganked" by people.
It meant there was an additional element of danger.

What we see from the "players of today" is groups of people hanging around and killing "the single ememy" and loving every second of what they have done.

There is a big difference between PvP and "ganking".

I don't think you can help that attitude when in a group of gankers, you just all want to get a hit on the victim before he dies. Think lions and antelope.

I've been on both sides so I understand why people get frustrated. However just remember the gankers are not NPC's they are providing you with a spontaneous event that will differ each time you play. You don't get that with dungeons or raids.

positive spin or what.

Have a question guys please

I have pre-ordered the SE from a famous Etailer and have submitted my pre-order code on my SWTOR account.

I have just logged into Origin and see this:

Now i dont remember pre-ordering this direct from Origin? or is this standard procedure as its an EA product?

Bit confused

Same with CE Pre-Orders...

I noticed it was also on my Origin client yesterday and i too pre-ordered using a code from a bricks and mortar store.

So if I create a Origin account, I will see the game in my list of games? I guess you have to add your swtor username?

Can you explain this a bit more please?

I registered my code on the swtor website.

I looked at Origin a while later and it was just there.

I have no idea how it was added as i do not think i added my origin details to the swtor site.

I'm fairly sure it is the Email you use to sign up with. It looks at what email you used to sign up on the Swtor website and assigns the key to either a new Origin account or an origin account using the same email address depending on if you have one or not.

cheers, makes sense!

Looks like they had no healer at all. Are flashpoints really that easy?

I managed the equivilant Imperial flashpoint with just one other person (who luckily had lots of holds). We went through the flashpoint carefully - died a couple of times, but made it through eventually. Probably quite easy for a team of 4. Regardless, the flashpoint was great fun :)

Hang on, is that the entire flashpoint?! Am I the only one that doesn't want to be shown the whole game before I get to play it myself?
