shocking that this sort of stuff goes on in UK slaughterhouses. I eat only british meat expecting my meat to have been raised more humanely than any other country.

watching this, what's the point, I may as well just buy something from holland or denmark where they raise pigs in high rise flats at 6 per metre :confused:

Just look for free range meat. That stuff should be fine and from farms where they even give piggies nice warm baths :)

:confused: cheale meats are suppliers of free range pork (after alll free range farmers still have to use an abbatoir)

...just ask for the cQp brand when you next see your butcher

Part of the problem here is the industrial scale of it all. But that shouldn't mean needles cruelty is acceptable. My guess is they know it goes on, but just ignore it.


What i can't understand is how the food standards agency can act after viewing the footage and revoke the licence of 2 x slaughterman at cheale meats and tighten fsa inspections yet defra are unwilling to act on the footage :confused:

Cheale Meats have even sacked the 2 employees concerned...which surely proves it is their slaughterhouse!

I sincerely hope that the vast amount of public revulsion leads to consequences and lost business for the management of Cheale Meats.

Cheale Meats licence needs to be at least suspended pending an investigation.
 
Ok, call me horrible.. but we kill animals to eat them, they get slaughtered and die. Are these animals that concerned on their method of death? are they that smart? Does the pain an animal feel at its time of death really affect anyone and does it have an effect on their meat etc?

The amount of distress these cows must be going through is horrible, and also these guys must be off their heads as they are only reducing their own yield, reducing their profits.


During a four-week investigation in April and May, MFA's investigator documented farm workers:
  • Violently punching young calves in the face, body slamming them to the ground, and pulling and throwing them by their ears
  • Routinely using pitchforks to stab cows in the face, legs and stomach
  • Kicking "downed" cows (those too injured to stand) in the face and neck – abuse carried out and encouraged by the farm's owner
  • Maliciously beating restrained cows in the face with crowbars – some attacks involving over 40 blows to the head
  • Twisting cows' tails until the bones snapped
  • Punching cows' udders
  • Bragging about stabbing, dragging, shooting, breaking bones, and beating cows and calves to death


They deserve to be put infront of a firing squad, but what did he get?

Gregg was sentenced to eight months in jail, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, and is barred from contact with animals for three years

I'll only eat free range organic meats, eggs have to be free range

I won't go anywhere near organic meat. It doesn't follow that organic animals are better treated. In contrast, when one becomes ill, you cannot treat it with antibiotics, as then it wont be organic. So the options are to leave the animal sick and injured, or to treat it, seperate it from the other animals and sell it as non-organic.

According to a vet whose word I take as absolutely reliable, the conditions at organic dairies are significantly worse than those at inorganic dairies. Especially for milk, do you really want it to come from puss covered, infected udders from an organicly raised cow?

If you want to make sure the meat is free of any strange chemicals like penicillin, then buy organic. But it's indefensible from an animal cruelty perspective.
 
Im not defending the animal abusers when saying this, but we live in a society that breeds animals so we can kill them ad lib... no one actually really sits down when they have their sunday roast and checks that the chicken/lamb/cow etc was killed or treated nicely.

But thats not what I want to get at, in the wild, use say the Amazon as an example, do you class it as cruel that a tribesman would hunt animals (chase them) and catch them anyway they can, with no regard to the animal? Im sure ive heard on some TV show that certain 'tribes' will cook an animal alive.

Its the way of the food chain, unfortunately or fortunately for us we dont have to go out and provide in that way, but if we did... would you ask the pig nicely with a bunch of flowers to lay down so you could feed your family? Or would you batter it anyway you could?

Im not saying that cracking an animal with a metal bar is fair game, but man is still man and I can see in that environment that men would get worked up, the smell of blood, the feeling of power.. its was made us what we are and if that instinct left us then we wouldnt last much longer.

The best way to deal with it is to try and remove humans from this part of the equation... a fully automated abbatoir or something that just had humans at the start (outside of the main slaughter area) filling in the animals, and then at the end sorting stuff or something.

Waffled a bit, but its hard to get a point across without defending the cruelty.
