Well I just went for the Phone, Infinity and Vision package for a wholesale swap from Sky

Should get 27.7 DL and 5.8 UL which is a tad better than now :

Installing on the 17th August :)

Well, just got it installed at my parents' house. I don't get it myself until Thursday but it's good to see that the previous ADSL connection that was a flaky 2mbit is now a so-far 34.5mbit connection. Pretty good going. The BT estimate was 29.5mbit so it's an extra 5mbit on top of that.

After three months or so, I'm still getting around my 34mb which was the estimated. Haven't used torrents so can't comment on that. I haven't had any downtime basically apart from a few hours one night. The speed was slower for about 3 weeks tho, I was only getting 24mb. Overall I am quite happy with BT so far :).

How are you all finding BT infinity? I'm tempted to get them in my new flat (Only 12 month bt package), are there any ways to check the quality of their connection with my postcode?

*Checked the area:
"Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 37.8 Mbps and upstream line speed of 9.8 Mbps."

Click here go to the "Test Speed" bit, it should tell you if its available and if so the anticipated speeds ;)

However note that by "anticipated speeds" it really means "guesstimated speeds". I.E Don't take anything it tells you as completely accurate.

I've had Infinity for a year now and that speed checker comes back with completely inaccurate results.

That's odd I've done quite a bit of reading up before taking the plunge and, on the whole, BT appear to be quite conservative with their estimated speed and usually ~5meg under what people end up getting.

They do seem to be conservative I agree.

The checker tells me I can expect 30Mbps. For the last year I've enjoyed 38Mbps. I.E It's inaccurate and complete faith shouldn't be placed in any results it tells you. That's what I meant in my previous post.

I have just been connected today on the High Wycombe exchange. I am about 0.6 miles away from the exchange. My test results are: Ping: 25 ms Download: 21 Mbps Upload: 7.8 Mbps

Not really impressed as I was getting very close to that download speed on Be/O2!

Fairy Muff, but id much rather "expect" 30 and get 38 than the other way round ;)

wireless or wired connection.

Also please post the test results from the BT speedtest website.

These 2 should be done before posting about crap speeds IMO.

Had a similar thing at my parents' earlier when it was just installed. First speed results seemed to come in at around 20mbit which was still much better than the 2mbit it was before but not as good as the 29.5mbit estimated speed. After rebooting the VDSL modem (by accident) the download speeds went up to 34.5mbit.
