If I gave you 5,000 quid how woudl you invest it?

Even if it was before tax it would still be way more than I ever got....what would that be after tax btw as an estimate that is ?.

Damn 2.3k a month what the @*%$ I wished I was taking that home or should I say I wised I used to take that home.

what are you a gigolo or some thing? :P

lol i am the I.T Admin at a large school and get paid an extra 7000 a year to maintain the website and deal with the daily runnings of the VLE (Virtual learning environment) Its after tax yes..

You mean like CallofDuty7.com etc..

That would be domain squatting, i.e. infringing someone else's intellectual property, and would not be something I would recommend.

The kind of domain I would recommend are generic terms that are related to profitable online sectors, e.g. broadband.co.uk, mobiles.co.uk (you won't be able to buy these now of course ...), or important real world business terms. There's a lot to learn but you can look at:

http://domainprices.co.uk/Domain_Sales_Prices.php

for UK domain sales.

If you get it right you can reg a domain that no-one else has thought of (maybe a future term) for around £7, and sell it for thousands. Of course, it takes a huge amount of business knowledge and economic insight to identify the right terms, but the returns are possible for those with the skill.

As with all investments, do your research first and do not jump in without doing your homework. Reading a magazine like the Investors Chronicle would help you with general investment/business insight and that in turn would help you with domaining.

Gold, Silver, or ARM shares.

You can get 5% 5 year ISA if you want to play it steady.
Depending on your house, it might be worth looking at solar panels too

I see what you mean very interesting and not too risky financially and actually fun.

something like

hoverboards.com

or

Cheapspaceshuttles.com

or

If hoverboards were made and selling as if cars that would be very profitable...but unlikely lol

hoverboards.com - Already taken.

Yes it can be fun, but if you are thinking of getting into domaining, don't make the newbie mistake of getting carried away and registering all kinds of rubbish, as the renewal fees will really mount up. Keep in mind that quality really counts.

It's £5k not £50k, I'd probably just put it towards a holiday or something.

This...

5k isn't enough to do anything worth while with. Might as well just buy something you want or wack it in the bank.

I would look at investing in domain names. Like all investments, you really need to do your homework first. DO NOT INVEST until you know what you're doing. However, the beauty of domain names is that you can register a new (free to reg) domain very cheaply, so risk can be kept low, and then you just pay renewal fees. If you get it right, you can sell the domain on for a good profit and a very healthy Return on Investment.

Shares carry much more risk as a share price fall can wipe out your investment.

Last bit is silly.

If you're going to compare directly then its more like buying an option - you've got an expiry date and it could well expire worthless.

Then again, unlike an option, you don't have the issue of decay and once in possession of the domain, you'll still only need to pay a small amount to renew (roll over) your domain even if its increased significantly in value.

Tis a good idea if you know what you're doing but I'd suspect that for a lot of people it isn't feasible. To state that 'shares' carry more risk is bit of a nonsensical comment.

Right but by renewal you mean monthly or yearly? So you pay 7 quid to create a domain? Then every year you pay another 7 quid to renew it?

Is this correct?

I mean 7 quid vaguely around that value?

Then one day some company want to create a website eg..The Super Burger take away and they see you have the domain www.Superburger.co.uk registered. So, they pay you 2000 quid to buy it form you. ???

5K is not much, so seeing as the 5DMKIII is taking forever, I'd buy:

With a few lenses! YUM!

invest it all in bet matching, could make a few hundred a month from 5k :)

whats bet matching? ok I read on wiki but this only works with free bets and free bets are usually only 10-20 quid lol..and how coudlI continually create new accounts in my name with only few bookmakers? Or do you mean just book different bets on at dif bookmakers eg..win at ladbrokes, win for other team at william hill. But unless odds are over 2:1 I will lose money?

I could put 5k on a certain fixture like for example Man Utd at home to QPR.

Hw much would I win like 5500 lol

then 5500 on Chelsea at home to QPR win 6000 back

then 6000 on Celtic at home to St johnstone

then 6.5k on Man utd at home to swansea

etc..

or si this crazy lol

I have two friends who are IT Managers at large well off schools and afaik they're not on anything like that.
From a quick look at an online salary calculator, are you on £40K~?

To answer OP, hookers are in fact a great investment.
Buy a couple with the £5k, then put them to work. Give it a few weeks and you'll be quids in!
