My EK blocks nickel flaking off.

Well it may have something to do with the fact many people were saying it was BS. And also the fact that what, 0.001% are affected?

Oh dear.
I have two EK 6870 blocks, both are affected, quit being so.... You...
So, people called BS, and you believed them? More fool you.

To be fair, I had these blocks a week before you posted this thread :)
What did you want me to believe? the majority seemed to think it was BS. Obviously they were wrong :)

The issue is more than a week old :p.

E-tailor stated ;

Morning Martin,

Images have been received, thank you.

We'll need to contact EK on this to figure out what they are doing, if they are issuing refunds then we will gladly deal with them for you to obtain this refund but as previously said, we arent able to actually refund this for you directly.

Email will be sent to EK today, we'll then work out the best way forward whilst working with you towards the end result.

Hope this helps

.............

The ball's in EK's court.

My blocks just went over the week mark today :(
Ah well. TBH, i've had my heart set on a nickel setup for months so i wouldn't change it anyway :p

Hopefully EK will give you a refund, but I doubt it :(

EK have said they will exchange, not refund. I asked from eddy in another forum about this and he said ek will only exchange and if some one chose copper over nickel for an exchange they will refund the deference. But the main part of it will be exchange - not full refund.
This was before ek introduced the EN plating and they seem to be a bit expensive than others, so not sure if some one chose an EN plated block over normal one for an exchange, does it mean we have to pay the extra?

Did you use any additive?

No dyes etc.

Are EK bound by UK law?
They can't replace with old style Nickel plating blocks, and I'm not going to pay for their mistake. Also, there are no EN 6870 blocks, or copper ones.

They're in mainland Europe so I doubt it

Besides, you have no contract with them at all

Jesus....
The E-tailer refuses to let me have a refund, despite the fact these blocks simply aren't fit for purpose, which has peeved me a little.

Name and shame. EK have said themselves that they're broken and have basically issued a recall. If the etailer is refusing to take it then they are absolute *****. I wouldn't trust them with anything if they are trying to get away from this blatent issue.

You can RMA it directly to them with free postage though. Check their website. Iirc, you get the option of replacement with a nickel EN block, copper block or refund.

It is a hassle, especially if some retailors tell you to go through EKWB. There is a particually well known competetor of OCUK here in the UK who will take the block off you, refund/replace straight away with their own stock and handle EKs RMA themselves.

Not all EK's blocks are affected. There is a fair amount which are. The new EN nickel blocks should be completely fine.

So is there a recall on EK Nickel blocks?

I have a Supreme HF and 5870 full. I don't fancy taking my loop apart just to check but at the same time I don't want to wreck my pump and rads.

EK aren't refunding, there's no copper 6870 blocks or EN, it's not the E-tailors fault.

And EK haven't exactly recalled, they're still allowing sale of their old stock.

E-tailor can't replace me with another 6870 block, as it's faulty, and they can't give me a copper version as it doesn't exist, they either freely upgrade me, or refund me.

Ok I've been out of the loop for a couple of years now, but why on earth is the inside of the block plated in nickel ?

I dealt with plenty of blocks that had the outside plated for aesthetics, but the inside was almost always bare copper (tho who remembers the aluminium Apogee GTX fiasco?).

I'm newish to watercooling, I've only had loops for about 2 years now, so I couldn't tell you why it's nickel plated inside, or about the aluminium fiasco lol.
