Guy over the road a ****?

In next weeks episode "help my car has been vandalised"

LOL!

I can see both sides to be honest, parking down my street is a bit difficult on occasion, especially if people have visitors, but we seem to have established a gentlemans agreement whereby we dont do that kind of thing unless we have no choice, and it's generally apparent that the street is busy.

A place I used to live, where we got on well with everyone, we would frequently use each others drive ways if we we knew they were away for the weekend or whatever, It was never an issue.

Some people seem to get really wound up about that sort of thing though, maybe a bit of deplomacy is in order.

I think I can see exactly why he is a bit annoyed.

For him to reverse he is pretty much in the middle of the road when turning the front end of his car. Potentially more dangerous because of the nearby roundabout?

EDIT: Failing that just park outside that bush a bit further down? :p

Use your discretion, you're on a public road and not blocking his drive.

Your personal character dictates what you will do and how you handle the situation - you have the right but consider what kind of character you'd like to have.

He hasn't asked you not to park there, just to move the car forward so he can reverse in, seems a pretty reasonable polite request, like Telescopi, I tend to agree it is a test of character.

You shouldnt be parked there if thats a roundabout? pretty sure the law is no parking 10m from a junction.

Your right it is the law, From the Highway Code:

243
DO NOT stop or park
near a school entrance
anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
on the approach to a level crossing or tramway crossing
opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
in front of an entrance to a property
on a bend
where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities
except when forced to do so by stationary traffic.

NB: may just be a Wales thing but I have never ever seen this enforced and its very common here.

*EDIT*

Nvm says "do not" not "must not"

I was always of the understanding that in the highway code, DO NOT was an advisory, MUST NOT was the law??

It doesn't look like a council estate, so I can understand why the guy doesn't much fancy a bright gold Vauxhall Astra parked out front his house all the time straddling the pavement.

He's testing you to see whether you really are a **** or whether you're actually a half decent guy that knows how to do the right thing.

I understand that this guy obviously can't drive but....

It's now illegal to park next to a dropped kerb, for instance. Exceptions are:

When you're in a parking space
When you're parked outside residential premises with the consent of the occupier of the premises -- as long as you're not paying for parking.
When loading or unloading for 20 minutes or less.
Works such as gas and water, or road works.
It's an armed forces vehicle

He can't reverse park it from facing the wrong way on a roundabout and I would guess that your car sticks out more than your blue block shows. I can see why that makes it difficult to be honest and not everyone is a parking pr0 like the people of OCUK motors.

If I were you I'd look at trying to park elsewhere, well... actually I wouldn't be in a situation where you have three cars with parking for two in the first place but there you go.

Obviously you could park it there and take the "its legal so stuff you" attitude but there are often situations where you have take the easy line for everyone. For example I avoid if at all possible parking outside my own house because it makes it really difficult for the guy opposite to get on or off his drive. Slight bit of inconvenience on my part equals good relations with the neighbors.

if that was my house you were parking over I'd be pretty pee'd off too tbh. Stick it near your own house.

But it isn't the guys house who is complaining it is his next door neighbour, did you even look at the picture?

Even so, road outside your house does not come with parking rights.
