Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

You're getting a pretty bad attitude in this thread RavenXXX2 - you've managed to turn a feature in a game you don't like in to a reason to **** off other forum users. Pretty poor show if you ask me.

Chill the hell out. We all hope this game will be the best it can possibly be but there will always be something that someone doesn't like.

bit of a nooby question but is it better to get origin or stand alone BF3, I dont really know the difference

Hard copy if you want to save a tenner. The difference is with origin you can pre-download the game so it will be ready to play on release, with the hard copy you will have to install it on release day, no big deal.

Trolololol this thread is full of no skillers. :p

Telling other users to 'shut up or leave' is as good as flaming in my books, so those of you having a moan at RavenXXX, grow up and learn to let live. If you stopped responding everytime he brings up the subject, he will make less posts about it...

I can see where he is coming from, casual low skill pub players want an accurate triangle to show them where to shoot. Hardcore players want the tactical guess work of 'spotting question marks'.

As we've seen with public servers on BC2, getting a 'hardcore' server full can be quite difficult since a lot of players click play now or never try out the filtering in the server browser.

Hopefully I get in the open beta as I did in BC2 and MoH, I would like to give this game a go even if I don't buy it (at all, or maybe some time down the line).

Pre-order BF3 and you will get the back to karkand DLC with origin and a retail copy, so no difference. If you pre-order at game or gamestation you get some extra unlocks which will be made available to everyone else free of charge a month or so later.

if you spot someone and they duck behind cover the triangle disappears. Don't know if anyone else noticed that.

Works less than it does from my experience, countless times I've seen people spot for me/I spot someone who then walk behind an object and you simply follow their triangle until they pop out and kill them.

They have absolutely no idea that you can see them behind a rock and they are just about to reach a point where you can shoot, no idea at all.

Now, being a good player myself *toots own horn* I'd be stupid not to use the system in place, I abused spotting so bad. Let other people use it and not myself? hah. I might as well have bound Q to autospam. You just look in a general direction, the rock formations or cluster of bushes people tend to form around, QQQQQQQQQ *triangles appear*. You can't do that as much in BC2.

Spotting something you actually can see is one thing, using spot to find people you cannot is another thing. The latter seems to be most wide used.

In what way:

One word : AUDIO

The graphics are amazing, even considering it was an alpha.

The movement feels fluid yet connected to the environment.

The weapon's look and feel amazing, and having shot an ak47, m4, sig 550, colt 1911 and thompson, I think the recoil is pretty spot on. Guns don't actually kick THAT much in full auto, you can hold them pretty steady, but the bullet spread due to the vibrations in the barrel obviously makes it more accurate to fire in short bursts, just like in the game.

I like how bullet damage is judged on the size of the bullet, rather than the gun it is being fired from (obviously apart from snipers but this is being worked on)

I think the battlelog system, also considering its alpha, is very nice. Seemed stable and quite a quick way to get into a game.

The game just felt tight, not floaty or disconnected liked I sometimes felt with BC2, and its going to great to have such tight gunplay on a 64 player map with vehicles thrown in, cant wait :D

Well graphics and audio being better were a given considering BC2 and MOH. I don;t agree with the damage and recoil system, recoil feels too weak and bullet damage feels too high. As someone else said its far too easy to spam a full mag and with a bit of mouse movement get most of those rounds on target.

Thats all still being adjusted though so hopefully beta is a big improvment.

Wes, if someone else has can still see them/has spotted them, it wont disappear.

Gerard, I think recoil is an improvement and is definitely more realistic than the "tap tap" shooting of BC2.

You say fully auto you get "most" rounds on target, that isnt true, but does depend on the range to the target.

Did some testing firing into a wall on full auto in the alpha, and while you can keep the gun pretty steady, the bullet hole spread increases drastically.

Tell you what, go youtube the video of FPS Russia firing the M4 Carbine, 30 rounds in about 2 seconds, full auto. That'll give you an idea of how well a professional (Russian :D) can fire a firearm. Here you go: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=PDQ0McPWXJA

That must be why in the beta the assault rifles were more effective than the sniper rifles. You just have to look at gameplay to see that a lot of people are just spraying and getting kills from stupid ranges.

As for the "russian" guy, or should i say the alaskan with the most sterotypical fake russian accent in history, really makes no difference how well he can fire a gun, we're talking about a game, what happens in real life doesn't always equate into a fun ingame experience.

Heheh he may be fake but the guns aint :)

I agree about the sniper rifles, I understand that they are trying to reduce the amount of sniping but they still need A LOT of tweaking, as I found the default sniper rifles pretty useless.

Well no, that's true, realism doesn't always equate to fun gaming, but I think, for me, certain things like weapon accuracy should be as realistic as possible, as it immerses me more into the game, same reason why I play hardcore if given the chance.

Personally in the alpha I felt that if I "sprayed" bullets, I would die against a skilled player.

No amount of spraying defeats cover and/or aimed controlled bursts.
