What are people’s thoughts on this, if large employers including government workers were subjected to random drug testing with the threat of dismissal do you think it would put a big dent in the drug industry?

I think that as long as companies designed a policy where you will face action and it would go down on a record that you use substances.

But then again most drug users don't give a damn they would probably never work in their life again if companies did random drug tests.

They tried to do it to everyone at Honda, had everyone in a room and said "whoever thinks they will fail, walk to the other side of the room":D so many people walked over that they didn't bother with the drug test as they would lose too many people:D

I dont agree with this, drug addicts yes however there are lots and lots normal professional people that will do a line of coke on a night out, take some E or whatever.

Or smoke a bit of weed on a Friday and Saturday night but then dont touch it any other time so they are fine at work.

Agreed, a large majority of my friends use drugs on a fairly regular basis and many have very well paying and successful careers, including some careers which include drug testing.

And how many of them would stop taking the drugs if there is a chance they will loose their jobs?

nothing wrong with Smoking a Spliff.

snorting coke, taking E's your a baghead pure and simple mate.

We get randomly tested (civil engineering). Drugs & Alcohol tests.

What tends to happen is the foremen catch wind, spread word of what's going on and switch off or don't answer their phones so we don't have enough numbers and end up just testing mostly office staff

I'd bet a fair few bob that most guys on site are either still drunk or drugged up from the night before.

I don't think it would have a massive effect on the drugs industry though it might lower it somewhat. Though particular employers might not be happy about having to fire staff left right and centre, depends on their values.

Why should the government or a corporation care what someone does in their own home in their spare time?

Would you want a surgeon who still has a high level of illegal drugs in his body doing an operation on you?

Extreme example obviously, but shows my point of view. I worked in a hospital for a year and random drug and breathaliser tests were part of my contract and I had no issue with that. Some professions are far more sensitive to drug use than others though.

Why not, we've had it in the Forces for years, and it works very well. Only a good thing in my opinion, anything to help erradicate illegal drugs and crime attributed to them.
