The Grand Theft Auto thread.

Vice City was where it peaked.

San Andreas felt like The Sims at times - Having to go right over the other side of the map to fight alongside your gang, take your girlfriend out or go to the gym to buff up. Having certain times that you could do missions etc on top of this was too much of a PITA. I would be rushing to get to a mission before it would be too late and have to wait a day, only to have the hud saying I am loosing muscle and my cheap tart is unhappy as I spend no time with her.

I spent so long just driving/flying around for no reason in San Andreas. "in the desert, on a horse with no name..." :D I can remember all the songs lol.

Yeah I think they threw everything into San An, some bits were great (BMX's, Basejumping, Tri-athlons) some bits were really annoying but for overall content it was massive.

GTA IV was a step backwards imho, you had to pay for basejumping & it didn't feel like a sandbox as much.

GTA IV Multplayer was ok thou, scooter races with molotov's were the shiznit.

What I like to see next from the franchise is a persistent online element, obviously singleplayer focused but maybe a whole city that we get to wreck online too.

Vice City was incredible, one the very best games of all time. By the end when you owned every business and property in town there was an amazing sense of achievement.

San Andreas was great but they went overboard on the content and sheer size of the game. Certian things like going to the gym  didn't add much to the experience.

IV was meh, everything felt a lot slower and realistic, almost like you were playing through a good, but very long drawn out film. Hopefully they recapture the style of the old games in their next release.

If 4 made a profit 5 will be made, its an industry that employs many people so yes of course

Vice city was also a favourite, the heli ride was amazing for the ps2 era and the music is perfect for eighties kids. On multiplay side they have a long way to go still, they could easily make it a giant of a game and 4 was not good enough

what yall thnk of siants row?

3rd one out soon

I think 2 is ok, its more fun like old gta but gfx are quite poor and having to build repsect is stupid as you keep repeatign same missions/tasks over and over.

GTA is better as missions are unlocked as you complete them just like story porgression

GTA4 peed me off due to it being 75% on-foot and only 25% driving.

In a game about cars. For shame.

GTA - Amazing in its day
GTA London - lolwat...pretty bad
GTA2 - Also Amazing

GTA3 - Amazing adjustment to 3D and amazing game
GTA VC - Amazing
GTA SA - Amazing game but hated when you reached a certain speed in cars and motion blur kicked in too hard and the console couldn't seem to handle the frame rate.

GTA IV - Was an 'OK' game but it was no GTA....the characters were terrible, it was too dark and serious without any of the typical GTA comedy factor, the radio stations and music was terrible, the aiming/ shooting process in the game was terrible, the way the cars drove wasn't very good....and the story was boring and missions even more so....

I think that GTA4 really suffered from the pressure of having realistic graphics and physics. The engine is amazing but the game suffers because of it. The PS2 games had awful graphics really but you don't notice because of the incredible immersion.

I still maintain that GTA3 is the best 3D GTA. VC and SA are good but really GTA3 just has this atmosphere that the others don't.

I can't believe its been like 3 years or so since GTA4 was released. Weren't the other games released a year apart from each other? I wonder if GTA5 will be out on the current gen consoles?

From Wiki it appears that GTA 4 was a massive commercial success so I'm surprised they haven't released another game yet.

Though it was a commercial succes I hope and am sure they know fans werent best pleased.

Perhaps so as Ballad gay tony etc was moreso OTT old GTA style.

Also remember though 3 years since GTA4

they made 2 expansions

PLUS

Red Dead Redemption

(and la noire but that not really count)

Vice City will always be the epitome of GTA for me.

Admittedly it might have something to do with being an 80's child, growing up watching such `quality` TV programs as Miami Vice etc. :D

If (they surely will) they release the next GTA I hope they throw in a really good multi-player section. GTA MMO would sell millions I'm sure.

PvP in GTA. Sound good? :D

I don't get the hate for GTA IV. It's still got the same sense of humour and the radio stations / music is still brilliant it just doesn't look cartoony. I judge a game on more then just looks and the more gritty and "realistic" engine could easily be seen past.

I personally hold a special place in my heart for GTA III because of the amazing move to 3D. I think Vice City was "a better game", I loved the feel and period of it. Still know my way round Vice City and Liberty City

GTA: SA always just felt a little "too" daft at times, don't get me wrong still loved it. I just don't think it's as good as Vice City.

The two "expansion" packs (Lost and the Damned + Ballard of Gay Tony) were good too, Gay Tony was better easily imho.

I've played then all to 100% too, having replayed them all countless times. Currently on my 5/6 replay of GTA IV

Really hope they do the next GTA in Vice City.

People don't like GTA IV (including myself) as much as the older ones because GTA IV simply wasn't that fun. You had an urban environment with little variety, with it being the Big Apple you would have though that there would be loads to do but that simply wasn't the case. I played the story and completed it and never touched it again. San Andreas on the other hand...

Spent hours with mates trying to find Easter Eggs like the hoax that was Bigfoot in the forest and the body bags in the hole in the desert. So much variety in terms of scenery, I loved driving from the city through the wilderness.

Thought i'll give credit where credit is due, Lost & Damned was much better than GTA IV imo, had me nearly shedding tears at the end.
