Times were not any simpler in 1926 than 2011, read any history book on the period and you will see that.
However, people led lives of less expectation, lower education, lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality, less individual rights, far more insular and generally harder than the lives we lead today. The people led simpler lives in comparison to our own (in general)
What evolution has to do with I have no idea, unless you are talking about social evolution, however the quality of your posts so far lead me to believe this is not the case.

Let's be honest most people find it easier to deal with the stress of getting cancer or getting ill than the stress of an office job. One is human nature and one isn't.

I think most people would choose that simple community life closer to human nature rather than today's corporate hell hole.
