London in 1926

I love to watch old footage of familiar places thanks for sharing the link fella :)

I remember showing my late grandfather a book which had photos of London in the late Victorian era, he pointed to one of Trafalgar Square which just had a few horses and cabs around the statue and said: "I can remember when it looked like that"

The immediacy of the colourisation of that footage make me feel how near yet so far away that time was.

I love this sequence from around 1903:

That would depend on how you define simple. I will keep it simple for you...

Times were not any simpler in 1926 than 2011, read any history book on the period and you will see that.

However, people led lives of less expectation, lower education, lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality, less individual rights, far more insular and generally harder than the lives we lead today. The people led simpler lives in comparison to our own (in general)

What evolution has to do with I have no idea, unless you are talking about social evolution, however the quality of your posts so far lead me to believe this is not the case.
And yet they were happier.

Human nature and satisfaction isn't defined by economic growth and corporations.

Let's be honest most people find it easier to deal with the stress of getting cancer or getting ill than the stress of an office job. One is human nature and one isn't.

You cannot possibly say as happiness is a relative emotion. You only identify with it being a happier/simpler time relative to your own experience.

It says more about your own state of mind than theirs.

Those things still happen :p

If you haven't been in a room full of sweaty people smacked off their faces dancing to electronic music this side of the millenium, it's just because nobody is inviting you ;)

i've been to plenty. it's common knowledge however that certain things largely available at these kind of things are not as good now as they were in the early 90's. not that i'd know, i don't touch the stuff.

you will never see gurning like this again
