lomography

Just to illustrate the point

I purchased a Zorki 4 camera from a bloke in the Czech republic, for about 20 quid, on e-bay, about a year ago.

Looking at the Lomography site right now, I can see a very similar Zorki 4, refurbished camera selling for £175

Whilst paying £175 for it won't stop it taking cool photos it is still a bit silly.

Sure, I'm not saying it isn't. I was offering my opinion on lomography independent of cost. It's not like she's paid £18,000 for a camera so I didn't feel it particular crucial to highlight it.

It seems like you are seriously affronted by the scene tax on lomography cameras!

But yeah - my advice to her? Take it back, use the money to get some proper gear. The definition of 'proper gear' depends on what she wants and what she wants to do with it, but most certainly doesn't consist of new Chinese plastic tat and does consist of cameras from an era where film was the norm (which, when you think about it, is most of time... well, most of time since the event of photography). You can pretty much bet that if something still works like new after 30 years then it's well made.

Well they sort of can, as you can install Windows on them :p

Macs are (in my opinion) a superior product with fantastic build quality, support, etc. - just disproportionately large price tags.

I once looked at Lomography. I might have raised an eyebrow at a few pictures but....

Once.....

I just made a lomo online, how is it:

Wasn't the reason lomo cameras had such strange picture qualities simply because of the way they were built, i.e. cheap? I thought every camera had different results because they didn't take the effort to polish the lenses or build it with very high spec. Thus resulting in a very inexpensive camera. I would think £120 would be extreme for something like that.

GF has a lomo
never used it tho, it's sitting under the bed right now.
I once got one free for joining uboot (myspace -5 years)
