Stuff about router

I have the same issue on both my netgear router, and the one I was given by Sky.

But it's nothing to do with the phone, it was happening with my laptop/my sisters laptop well before I got my phone.

I just pull the plug on the router whenever it doesn't connect, which is about every other day, then once it's plugged back in it works fine for a bit.

On an Orange branded SGS2 is there any way to change the apps that are on the dock at the bottom of the screen (long hold does nothing), and s there any way to change the default app for texting to Handcent, for example?

Complete Android newb but loving it so far :)

does anyone know the max operating temperature of the phone before it does damage?
anyone know??

the reason im asking, is because i used my phone in the car with the car charger and copilot running but after about 20-30 minutes the phone got hot!! top and bottom, i guess due to the cpu being used and battery charging... is it safe to use copilot while charging?

I believe the SGS2 and many other phones have anti-overheat mechanism that will shut down the phone before any damage is caused. I've never had mine go over 40 degrees.

I use the below widget to keep any eye on the processor:

Temp+CPU V2

surely having the cpu being used and battery charging would make it even hotter

the problem with that widget is it can't be seen when a app running fullscreen

its should be cooler but will be hot regardless as the screen will be on and the cpu will be working to keep the sat nav going.

yeah

but i've noticed keeping the screen brightness on min reduces the heat alittle also.

why doesn't all that heat burn the screen?

i've been doing some testing on the road with google navigation, playing music and a blackbox app to record video and gps information. No lag whatsoever, very impressed although there is slight battery drain, perhaps 3% over 15 minutes.

Anyone have any problem with their phone not auto-connecting to the router when they get back home after being out??

I suspect it's a router prob, rather than a phone prob as it used to happen with my old HTC Desire too....

It constantly loops trying to connect to the router saying 'acquiring IP address'...fails to get one, then retries.

The only solution I've found is to log into my router and disable - then re-enable wireless on it.

The phone immediately connects ok then, and there's no further problem...until I leave the house and return again

I've thought of possible culprits/causes, and wondered if it might be my encryption type I've set on the router...WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK!!

Before I go altering things, and then having to also modify all the other devices in the house, I was wondering if anyone else was suffering from the same kinda thing?

Cheers

I had this problem after upgrading lit'ing rom a couple of pages back. You have to change the router encryption to AES.

Well looks like the phone will be going back. Really happy with the contract deal and the phone but Vodafones signal is truly awful!

At both my Dads and mine I can only get GPRS but on my Orange contract full 3G. Gutted.

Harsh :( I'm in the opposite boat really, Orange is awful here but Vodafone is great. Sorry if I'm rubbing salt in the wound!

Do you need 3G at yours or your dads? Maybe you could use WiFi if it is available. I'd also test the signal out in other places you frequent because if it is fine in those places then you might be able to live with it.

Are their any good deals for this on Orange/T-Mobile?

I guess I don't need 3G at mine or my Dads as both have wireless internet. I did have that brainwave after I posted lol. I'll test it at work tomorrow but it's kind of in the middle of no where and I only manage to get GPRS on my Orange contract there.

get a suresignal?

For a £50 charge and extra £5 a month? Not really ideal unfortunately.
