EA: "BF3 won't be on steam"

^^ Well the problem is for me... once each different publisher gets the idea they need their own specific distribution client, required to be running to play their game, etc. etc. I'm gonna end up with half a dozen or more different clients that I need installed - half of them no doubt poorly programmed, bloaty, cause compatibility issues, non-intuiative to use, etc. and then I either have to open and close them individually depending on the game I want to play... or leave them all running at once - probably starting with windows which will massively increase windows loading time... and while 1-2 clients on their own aren't a massive resource overhead once you start to have to have one from each publisher it adds up... oh and then if I decide to reinstall windows or move to a new PC I've got all the hassle of making sure I've installed all the clients, randomly located saved settings ported over for each client, etc. working out any DRM issues specific to each client and so on. Personally I've got enough hassle to deal with in my life without wasting time on this and I'm sure a good number of people are in the same boat.

Unfortunatly for other publishers steam was not only there first, they've put some effort into making it less resouce heavy and more convenient/useful to the consumer over the years to.

EDIT: and this isn't even touching on the social aspects, etc.

I've tried Origin, but definitely prefer Steam :)

Origin does have the faster download speeds, and there isn't anything particularly wrong with it, however, I do think that it's layout/ bringing your attention to sales isn't quite as good...

Furthermore, I had huge issues getting Bad Company 2 to install and getting onto the multiplayer with Origin, to such an extent I just uninstalled it and re-dled through Steam with absolutely 0 problems....

Saying that for Shift 2 it works ok, but then again I have the discs for this...

So yeah it doesn't seem great yet, but it's early days so may well improve, I'll happily keep an eye on it....

I'll probably buy the disc of BF3 anyway, and will just add it to Steam the same way you normally would!

Bahhhhh this is rubbish!

If BF2 patches any anything to go by (Wasn't 1.5 over 5gb?) this could become a pain, would be so much nicer for Steam to just deal with it =/

I refuse to use EA downloader, so will be prepurchasing thins from Play or amazon i reckon.

steam sucks because if like me you have bought many games on steam you will find that you can only play one game on one pc at a time, so if your bro or friend wants to play bfbc2 on steam while you play another game that you own on steam you will find that you can not play 2 games at once. pathetic steam is outdated and i will never buy anything on steam

you cant play offline mode on steam unless your online what a gay system

You're supposed to have 1 account each. Just because you want to break the terms of use isn't Steams fault.

Thats more of an unfortunate side effect really - quite a lot of games tho you can launch outside of steam except for titles tied into steam works, etc. and I can launch say eve and MW2 at the same time on the same PC even tho they are both bought from steam - and I can see why the steam client only allows one logged in instance at a time.

I'm afraid you're completely wrong here.

You need to be online to take Steam into offline mode (ie it needs to authenticate), but once that's done you can play Steam games with no connection whatsoever. I often play Steam games on my laptop in offline mode, and the missus had her Steam in offline mode for months with no issue.

Im not really interested in using another game download/launching client so this news does concern me a bit. I haven't preordered as I was waiting for it to come out on steam. I would have paid full price for it on steam but seeing as I have no games or friends on origin I'm not likely to buy bf3 on there. I might just go retail and if that means having to wait an extra day then that'll be just fine.

If bf3 is integrated with origin and you can see in game friends and join from the client then that would be handy, provided if course you can have mire than bloody 20 friends.

Isn't it stupid that a digital version costs so much compared with a box copy. Surely the box, manual, DVD must cost a fair bit to manufacture.

I'm not impressed by this news.

I wouldn't be surprised if buying it retail means that you have to run it through Origin to be honest :/

+1

I think origin + battlelog will be a requirement. I think one of EA's priorities is the social networking side of things, ie battlelog.

Sorry. Would enjoy playing Battlefield 3 but I'm not going to be made to jump through hoops that EA have just moved.

I'll stick to Steam thanks :)
