I will hold out till after release as I can see this being an EA "Please don't hold out pre-order now" stunt but if I do get it not on Steam it will be a boxed version.
Like it or not Steam has been around a long time, in most regards has been refined to be useful/convenient and relatively light weight, which most of the other distribution clients are not, and many many gamers myself included use it as our primary source for games and in the main see no reason to source games from other distribution methods - personally I can't be bothered with the hassle of dealing with different clients from each different publisher. So if its not on Steam I rarely buy it any more.
I don't think thats what they are doing. Valve have just changed their terms and conditions to force everybody selling dlc to give them a cut. They were fine with dragon age selling dlc through the game itself so it is a new thing as far as i know. Valve being greedy if you ask me. Also, I'm sure every major publisher will soon have their own store. Better get used to it folks unless you buy retail.
I'm glad someone else agrees. Valve greed pure and simple.
I don't know why people want games on Steam.
- more expensive
- uses system resources
It is cheaper than Origin which makes no ****ing sense at all as Valve are no longer taking a cut why should we play even more?????
Maybe it only applies to recent dlc? Is dirt3 dlc older?

Because of convenience and ease of use, Steam client also happens to be very well developed and they often have good sales on.
This is one of the interesting bits about the whole EA/Valve story... Valve haven't told anyone why they are not letting EA sell BF3 etc on Steam so we are only hearing one side of the story. What's the big secret, Valve? What changed in your T&Cs?
They really need to explain the reasons why, otherwise their silence may become deafening.
Why is it convenient to open one program just so you can open another?
Oh GNOES it uses system resources, im sure people with their quad core cpu's and multiple gigs of ram will tear their hair out in utter terror as steam whores up under 150mb of ram...
What is this 1998 or something?
I always have steam open, for the friends list if nothing else
