They have greater numbers and are just as well suited to deal with rioters, if not better. They are better equipped and much more intimidating, which I think you will find may help against a bunch of youths.

The police are a pathetic "force" compared to the army.

But the police and the army are entirely different.

Troops will not be deployed.

Close... Anything East of High Street/Saltmarket is considered East End but you are just the wrong side of Cumbernauld Road to be "proper East" :p

True. I class Cumbernauld Road the boundary as well, I'm in 'safe' east-end by 1 street though ;). I live beside The Duke.

Yep - he's going to make the rioters pay for cutting short his Holiday.

Straight to bed with no supper for all of them as far as this Country's do-gooders have anything to do with it methinks. :( :p

Cameron needs to hurry up and authorise some Level 3 hugging to stop this,or threaten to send in the Big Society volunteers.

Thing is that a lot of these people who started the fire will just head home now like nothing happened and probably not get caught. Some will. But A LOT wont.

Lol, you guys are getting so mad. I would wager that the majority are Tory voters too. The bleeding irony..

I sympathise with the rioters. I see great tension in society, a lost and hopeless youth, people losing houses and businesses left and right; huge sweeping cuts resulting in all sorts of hardship, and I can at least understand why this type of thing is not only happening, but will become more and more prevalent over the coming years.
To think otherwise is imo very naive.

Have not read through the entire thread, but two words spring to mind.

Harry Brown.

And I'm going back to London in a month for Uni. Worrying.
