We should rise up against this - let's get tooled up and take these *****rs on!!

I'm serious, enough is enough!! If this carries on and the government stops pussy footing around then the public should give these scum a backlash they will never forget.

When I said there was marshall law, I was joking! :(

That's almost a good idea.

They are responsible for their own behaviour, no-one else. No-one else caused them to riot, loot and generally behave in a manner that would be out of place in a lawless scumhole.

In your opinion no one caused them to riot. After all, this is a subjective thing and you are taking your position again.

They are responsible for their own behavour, but that is not to say that there cannot be significant social impact on conditioning. To ignore it, or even the potential, is political dogma.

The problem is a large number of individuals with a lack of personal responsibility and a sense that they are entitled to more than they have.

Yes, we know this. But I'm asking why this has occurred then, the catalyst. Because this is not happening elsewhere, and people keep pointing too 'just because' or 'Black'. That isn't an answer.

To argue anything else is to pander to the violent scum, which I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be considering if this was the EDL or similar...

No it's not, it's to prevent mental convervatives with crazy ideas about the state from riding rough shod with the 'there is no such thing as society' pish.

No, the solution to violent scum (not sure jealousy is actually a crime) is to not have a criminal justice system that panders to them and lock them up for a long time - which costs money to be recouped from the taxation system. Then the second part of the solution is to prevent people from under-privileged backgrounds becoming violent scum in the first place - you do that through schemes like Sure Start, and EMA - both of which were first on the coalition chopping board.

There is no evidence that sure start and EMA do anything of the sort, especially looking at the ages of many of the looters ;) Indeed one of the big problems with our welfare system (and a difference from many other countries where income inequality is lessened) is that our system has a massive benefit trap and a system of entitlement without responsibility.

However, the decision to become violent scum remains solely with the individual, there are no excuses and no justifications that remove or diminish this. Society cannot be responsible for the choices of individuals.

Gutting listening to an interview with one of the owners of that building blazing in Croydon. Built in 1867, family run for 5 generations, up in flames tonight, supporting over 30 staff, livlihoods destroyed. Torched by mindless thugs. These ***** breaking so much in their own communities, scarring them for a long time. Hope innocents make it overnight with no fatalities.

+1 absolute scummers to do that, hope those that torched it get locked up on a long sentence. Feel very sorry for the Reeves brothers. Honest well ran business destroyed by mindless idiots.

It cannot be used as an excuse - everyone gets largely the same opportunities as far as free education goes. Sure, the privilaged few get even greater opportunities, I wont dispute that, but we all get the opportunity to take GCSE's and if we want to do A levels - thats totally free of charge as well.

You can't squander these opportunities but then blame everyone else. Plenty of people from poor backgrounds manage to not acheive nothing at school. Plenty of people manage to live in really bad areas and still not fail everything at school. It's about attitude.

These guys dont trash things because they have no other choice, they trash things because they WANT to, and because the ENJOY doing it.

It's not just the individuals it's the schools, the teachers and other factors.

Young lads with no qualifications, never had a job with little or no prospects of getting one. I can't say who's to blame but that's certainly part of the problem.

More like young men who are unwilling to work and just want to replicate the lifestyles their rapper idols have. They want money and respect but are unwilling to perform any productive activity to society that a normal person would to achieve those goals.

My mate was at the worst school in the valley, it looked like a sodding prison, yet he decided at twelve to work hard and got A's in all his gcse and A levels. Applied to Cambridge university and had a secret part time job to keep his head above the debt ceiling.
In September he starts his graduate job with BP as a civil graduate, jsut shows that the area means complete b@@locks, its all about the type of person.
