Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

Turned on the news this morning to hear Theresa May saying we need "consensual policing" to solve the current riots. She wants local residents to grass on the trouble makers and officers trawling CCTV for mugshots.

Do we hell. To me it seems these rioters are nothing but opportunists operating in the power vacuum caused by too lenient responses to the current riots.

Send the Police in with tear gas, water cannon and batons rounds and I bet this whole mess will be resolved in a couple of days bar liberals complaining we are crushing the rights of looters and vandals.

We know most of the arrested will be back on the streets in a couple of days with nothing but a slap on the wrist. A lung full of tear gas or baton round may be the only justice we can ever place on them.

I do find this whole situation very troubling as the very measures I call for would more easily be employed in the future if wheeled out now. Those situations may actually warrant mass protests (albeit without the vandalism and looting). Thinking future directions of the current financial crisis.

To block, or not to block, social media applications - like Blackberry's BBM service - that are helping to spread the word about the riots. Tory MP Patrick Mercer tells the Today programme on Radio 4 that blocking the service would be "interfering with our own liberties". Meanwhile Mike Butcher, editor of the TechCrunch Europe website and a digital adviser to the Mayor of London, says any block on the service would be ineffective as information about riots would "root around" it.
"Interfering with our own liberties" - get a grip man, who cares if hordes of teenage girls can't gossip on BBM for one night if it means you're constricting communication flow for rioters.
Similarly on them being able to 'root around it' - any constriction on information flow will be a good thing and it won't be rocket science to implement.

The reason why they wont stop is because the Police are being too easy with them. They know as a big group they can do and get away with anything as we all know. Its time we used some real force to scare them as at this moment in time we are being too easy.

Im sorry but letting soldiers loose on the streets is complete and utter rubbish.
What we do need is for the Police and their leaders to get a clue in the next 48h and go on the "moderated" offensive.

They are treating this as a protest, with the kettling and policelines.

An ex copper om LBC was just saying that the Met police have terrible leadership with no spine anymore, they have access to baton round guns that fire a nearly (as he described it) harmless projectile thats liek getting hit by the force of a cricketball.

He also said as soon as you start throwing stuff back at least half the crown gives up cos no one wants to get hurt.. I completely agree now.

If there is any unrest tonight they need to stamp on it and give it a beating and arrest them.

Just let the police do their job, dont need the bloody army on the strrets...this is Britain not some 3rd world country.

Well it's not, not helping resolve is it?

I think the Police are doing pretty well, actually. What's gone down in London and elsewhere has been horrific but never forget how much worse it could have been. And, remember, they've already made over 400 arrests.

That's an interesting point. If you look at the ages of the scum they all grew up/were educated during Labour's twelve years of power...
And their parents, who undeniably have the vastly greater influence on their upbringing and behaviour and clearly did a bloody terrible job, were brought up and educated in the Thatcher 'me first' years. Fun this isn't it :D
