don't believe everything you read on Twitter.

I was in Victoria centre earlier on today, there was a couple of broken windows, & the numpties had tried to break into a sports shop.

last night about 30 local St Anns scumbags decided to try there hand at rioting, it never got any bigger than that, some windows have been broken, ( car & house ), they tried to fire bomb the St Anns police station & failed ( fire bombed the car park, which says it all really ) 3 people have been arrested, end of mini riot.

This is pathetic from the Police, so they are releasing picture taken from CCTV quality images and asking people to what...grass their mates up?

Th MET should be absolutely ashamed.

Why? They were out numbered and ill equipped. If I knew anyone involved I would happily turn them into the police like any good and decent person I expect would.

Nottingham Forest and Nottingham County are playing tonight which is usualy all out war after the match finishes but apparntly both Forest and County fans/hooligans have agreed if chavs are kicking off they will join forces and go after them. Nottingham city center could be very interesting tonight.

WHERE U HEARING THAT? I am going to watch this match and will joni fighting these chavvy ***** if need be!

they are losing publich support by not putting this down!

this will backfire badly on the government in the aftermath, the law abiding wont forget how badly the state has failed to protect them

Unfortunately the non-law abiding are huge in number, and they vote too.

Anyway who else do you vote for. Do we think Labour would be any tougher on crime. We know they aren't.

I was amazed that game was not called off, also Leeds vs Bradford???

Its probably be to show them how good the quality of the CCTV is, in an attempt to stop the little buggers taking any further part.

My sarcasim light isnt working right at the moment?...should it be flashing?

LOL at Sky news feed right now. Shop owner got text last night about his shop being done over then went round to see and he said live on TV, "about 100-200 Black youths with hoodies on where rampaging round the streets" the reporter said " hope you're not being stereotypical" shop owner said No I was wearing a hoodie too. Then the reporter said "I'm sure they weren't all black people on the streets" shop owner said "no, I was the only white guy" interview got cut off after a few more seconds..

Heading towards my mums shop now :(,
She has closed up now and heading home.

Cant imagine they will want to loot pet food tbh when there is a Marks & Spencers literally across the road.

is it just me or does this kate burrley woman on skynews come across as a bit simple?

some shop owner guy said he went down in a hoodie to see his looted shop and there were hundreds of black people in hoodies looting shop after shop.

she comes out with well they arent all black are they? lol he replies well no not really because i was there...

then he starts going on about how they took the till from one stoor and used it to smash a window of another...

she comes out with the smart comment "oh so thats how they are trying to get the money from the till" lol as if shops leave money in tills... even a simple person knows they cash up at the end of the day

You should have not change your location to cover up your guilt.
So we now have one of ocuk's frequenters now on the met's flickr! Woop woop.

It might not entirely be about poverty and I agree it's not necessarily about background etc... But sld's point was well put that there is a disproportionate skew of that lack of respect for authority and law in the poorer communities and possibly less well represented people.

I heard an interesting interview on LBC this morning - it was a black police officer. I'm compeletely paraphrasing so excuse me for that but it went along the lines of:

I think that's quite telling - the way the black police officer was speaking was quite sobering. He sounded well educated and clearly passionate about his job, but so saddened by the reaction of his peers and community. I think it says a lot at the segregation there is in our society that there is very much this "them and us" mentality still on going in SOME of the black community.

It's tragic and sad, as again it's only the most exuberant that are heard, the most prolific and outspoken that people notice - and unfortunately they seem to be the ones that the younger members of the community follow and cheer on.

Why is it that some communities can integrate and hold such different attitudes?

I was rather surprised by this police officer's take on things - I think we all "knew" indirectly that there has been a little bit of tension in the black community - but nothing on this scale.

Heck, there were even a bunch from the Turkish community in Bristol I think creating a block to their properties and shops - they're taking a stand, shame we don't see that from the rest of the communities.

Awful awful awful. No wonder more and more people are racist and so intollerant these days.

I agree with you and sld. However, this lack of representation isn't what is causing or fuelling these riots. This is simple thuggery and herd mentality at work. To think otherwise is wrong. Yes, there are problems with poverty, disfranchisement and minority groups. These need to be discussed in a proper, mature fashion. However that doesn't seem possible because of the threat of being branded a racist.

I'm not wanting to get into a discussion about what we should do to prevent this in the future, at the minute. I want us to try and stop this and bring people to justice. That's why I've been arguing so ferociously about not bringing in 'weaponry' because I don't think it will help.

It is very telling and what I find more telling is so many people's absolute refusal to accept that race might actually have something to do with things. I think people find the notion so at odds with what they've had shoved in their faces for the last decade or two they can't bring themselves to accept that maybe race can be an issue, maybe race is an issue now and maybe even the 'minorities' themselves are the ones who see it as the issue more than anyone else.

They get confused and afraid of facing the issue head on and we end up in the situation where you get branded a racist for even pointing out basic facts.

It's time for people to stop, think and face up to things, not just hide behind accusations and pretend everything is alright really.

Ashamed of what exactly?

Theirs complete and utter inability to do anything at the time!
Standing about whilst shops where looted, im not talking about the men on the ground, but clearly there was absolutely no educated co ordination at the top.
THey looked like they literally had no idea what to do.
Also, then basically those that put scarf's over their face/ hoodies tops, they have got away scott free?!?!?!?
