I see these people talking about how the police are there to protect and serve, and I'm sorry, I've yet to see anything anywhere in this country, that says that is their role. The role of the police, is to enforce the law, plain and simple. Investigative divisions are there to investigate, scientific divisions to do the science bit, but your average bobby on the beat, is not there to serve, he is there to enforce.
Now whether that enforcement is simply patrolling, or by looking upon every person he meets as a potential criminal, is neither here nor there, I deal with officers on a daily basis and I never have a problem with them, I treat them with professional courtesy and they do likewise.
We all know the types of people that attract the most attention from police officers, and yes, black teenagers get a lot of undue attention, but at the same time, a fair proportion of it is justified, its not racist, it is pure statistics, just as I am sure that it is fair to say that a large proportion of the burberry clad, elizabeth duke bejewelled trailer trash, also have something to hide.
In a time when it has become necessary, for ambulance crews and fire crews, to be issued stab proof vests, for fire engines to have cctv systems so that they can try and identify people that interfere with the appliances, I for one do not blame the police for being less approachable than they once were.
Do I respect them, yes, do I respect the work they do, yes, do I think that they are being tied up by liberal politicians, hell yes.
And if I were allowed, I would be right there alongside them, giving my support in these times of unsettlement.
