Ferrari 360 Experience Day - Elvington, York

Wow, that video made me want to cry. Proper felt for you there. I literally have more fun pressing the Engine Start/Stop button in my car than you had in that entire video

Hi there

I have sorted a JP day out on my lunch break, got a discounted price. I shall make an official thread this evening, but you save and it can be an OcUK thing, I shall be going, will be hoping to see a few of you there. :)

Nice

That does look quite dull, however some of the comments regarding your attitude towards the instructor do make sense (I realise some kind Don has given you a holiday so you can't reply).
I went on one a few years ago and I loved it, it was an airfield however they have actually constructed a track out of it rather than using cones. I was encouraged to redline it as much as possibly and be heavy on the brakes to get the most out of the car, the instructors were fantastic. Can't remember the company now though...

Top Notch Sir Gibbington!

Will keep an eye out and probably just book myself on, waiting gives youu time to make up excuses and justify why not to go, just booking is the solution :D

You will have to pay them upfront, can't afford to be messed about on something like this!

Not at the price you can't no.

If funds permitted I'd be on that list myself (even though the drive down is a pain)

If anyone is undecided on if it's worth it, It just is. Especially if you haven't been to something like it before.

Over a week later, I've received a reply with what I suppose are fair comments. I've taken out the part that was where the bold text is for the time being but its basically just explaining parts of the video.

Dear Glenn

I have examined the video on You Tube and have put together my comments as follows:

*(big wall of text commenting about certain parts of video - basically stating the obvious)*

I would like to further add that it is an industry standard for instructors to use the indicator controls to advise the car behind of the direction you will take to allow the other car to overtake; that’s used on the grounds of safety. Your instructor is a highly experienced race driver (with experience of competing in numerous Le Mans 24hour events to boot) as well as other advanced driving qualifications.

I must stress that this us a driving experience and not a lesson in how to drive fast or how to race a Ferrari, however I do feel that your instructor gave the correct instruction and at the right times and do not see how she was patronising in any way.

Kind Regards
Dominic.

I may have missed it but did they threaten you to make you take down the YouTube video, as it now says it's private?

If Dominic et al feel that that's how they want to run their 'experience', then all people can do is vote with their wallets.

What a bunch of nonsense keep pushing for a refund etc they ruined your gift by giving you a driving lesson not a ferrari day

Reply to it, but without being an arse. Something like:

Dear Dominic,

Thankyou for taking the time to reply.

I perfectly understand that it is common track etiquette to signal to the car behind that it is okay for them to pass. I’m not disputing that it’s a good idea to signal to them... it's just that the instructor could simply have asked me to do so and I would have obliged - I’m perfectly capable of using the mirrors and indicators. As a driver I find it a bit distracting when the front seat passenger reaches over to fiddle with stuff, and a bit of an invasion of my personal space.

With regards to the day being an experience rather than a race, I entirely agree. I was not expecting to drive 100% flat out for every lap! However what I was expecting was to drive a few laps, starting off gently and slowly building up confidence to do a ‘hot’ lap. In reality I never was allowed to do more than 4,000RPM and 70MPH. That’s more like a Mondeo on the M4.
Clarkson said that the Ferrari 360 “makes a blood-curdling noise as the revs climb round toward the stratospheric red zone.”... however I only got to experience the first half of the 360's 8,500RPM limit.

If you're going to try the 'not being an arse' approach, making sarcastic comments about Mondeos is probably not the best way to go about it.

I'd be interested to see the parts of the letter you've removed though?
