Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

We have such serious social issues in this country.

Housing estates are the primary source of all of these problems. They are the communities that breed a '**** the police' mentality. They're the ones you see stream out of their houses whenever police go anywhere near them to make an arrest, in order to give the police a hard time and push them out, like they're an enemy. They're the ones that have disrespectful children who are out at all hours of the day with very little parental discipline.

No legitimate, sensible, caring and morally assured parents would let their kids roam the streets knowing what is going on around the country. Those that are allowing it either have absolutely no control over their kids at all or they know and don't care, they may even want them to bring home loot.

No respectable parent is going to let their child bring home hundreds or even thousands of pounds worth of items into their home without at least questioning it.

This is a major aspect of events that hasn't really been focused on enough.

The only end I can see to this is when the unscrupulous scum that are participating in all of this finally decide they're happy with their hauls of loot and no longer want to risk being prosecuted to get more. The police and government will step things up if it continues and the odds of being caught will rise, particularly as many have already given up and are probably feeling delighted with their ill gotten gains (and gains they are, hundreds of pounds worth at least for most people involved).

It can easily flare up in the future too.

They're digging themselves a hole. They're reducing the chances of jobs in their areas, reducing the chances of themselves getting on the right track of employment by the criminal records many of them will get and they're increasing the burden on the public purse which will further boost the very things they may partially be unsettled about (inflation, taxes, cuts).

I still personally hate to see people act like the cuts are the problem. It amazes me how uneducated and short sighted the population can be over such a thing as cuts. What do they expect the government to do after 13 years of completely irresponsible over spending? You can only do it for so long until you have to put a stop to it or the country will go bankrupt. I can't believe some kids (and their parents) think it's alright to do these things because they lost their EMA, or because the police stop and search them sometimes, it's ridiculous. The left should take some serious responsibility for festering such an attitude of entitlement in this country for so long.

That shopkeeper who was just on Sky News was so completely and utterly right.

They do have a future if they are willing to work, to try and to make the best of their lives. They choose to be scum, they choose to continue their horrible attitudes and lack of respect. They are choosing to loot and make short term gains at the expense of long term poverty, economic decline and a breakdown of their local communities. It's just that they do not care at all, they'll get their few thousand pounds (or more) from their loot, they'll enjoy their trendy new electricals and clothes, but they still wont have jobs or a real future. What happens later? More crime? A life on benefits? The cycle will continue.

Estates, benefits, political correctness, irresponsible breeding and poor education have created this giant social underclass which has encapsulated half of an entire generation of people in this country. We're in serious trouble over this and I honestly cannot see any group of politicians from any party ever having the support or bravery to come out and take decisive and desperately needed action to combat this mass social decline.

Very ashamed and unhappy with all of these looters, their parents, family members who don't report it. We used to be such a great country, the decline is clear for all to see.

Quoted for truth, I cannot believe the way this country is going :(

The main problem we have is this massive "social underclass" continue to keep knocking kids out left, right and centre enabling them to earn more and more money from the benefit system, not to mention other bonuses such as free laptops, discounted housing, free dental care and the list goes on and on....

This is obviously very different to the normal hard working couples who have to think long and hard about how they're actually going to afford to bring children into the world.

It's a terrible state of affairs but until something is done to quash this benefit cheating scum who continue to breed undisciplined, disrespectfull, feral kids I fear the whole country will eventually just go down the pan.

Looter just handed himself into a GMP station after seeing himself looting on Facebook. Officers continuing to make arrests.

Guess that's the smartest thing to do, they'll probably give him a slap on the wrists.

Also to add, humberside police are on full alert and my housemates dad (also a copper) who lives in newark is on call to go to where might be needed if things start up in that area.

The thing that worries me is the current plan from David Cameron seems to be a consecutive day anti-riot plan, yet they all could just take a week off, wait for the 10,000 extra police to return to their divisions and just start over again :S

That's my worry too mate, bound to happen, in theory it could go on for the rest of the year in sporadic bursts and then what? what is going to happen during the olympics if they kick off?

0003: Skips being set alight in Hayes now.

2358: More reports coming in from Enfield station – checking now. Hayes still unclear.

2357: Rumours coming in of a possible fire at Hayes Lombardy.

London kick off again?

People are calling it a night here in Whitechapel and surround areas. There has been agreement to patrol for a few more nights from various people. A lot of Asians have friends/family in Manchester & Birmingham and are still worried about them but they are being encouraged to setup similar groups over there too and not just leave it all to the police.

Makes me very proud. I hope this rekindles the community spirit that has been dwindling over the years in this country.

A good article and account from the neighbouring locals here from yesterday:

Yeah, only after I reposted it did I realise it's meant for friday. For some reason I thought it was going to be tonight.

im in southampton....i got home from work at 10pm today. i could smell a sort of rubbery burning all over the area, and light smoke covering. think it may have been coming from nearby council estate

You know, the only thing worse than the naive cluelessness that Avec keeps spouting is the number of people who think his droolings are apparently the word of God.

Perhaps I should explain using smaller words since apparently my sarcasm was lost on you: the man is a tool. The things he said were truly toolish in their toolosity. His words were an embarrassment to the time he spent in his mothers womb.

And, remember, I'm one of the most liberal leftists on these forums.

Well if that was the case it was an appalling attempt at sarcasm...

It gives you hope that there might still be a community spirit, and it's great to see, but sad that the police have let it get to this stage.

true, but it does not excuse everybody else

Not a single person involved in the looting, violence against police, vandalism, arson and other riot related activities should be excused of any of it. Regardless of their ethnicity, age, circumstances and gender. They should all be punished severely for what they have done.

Sadly I can't see any punishment that would ever correct the problem, repay the damage done to society and communities and re-educate these children so that they realise the error of their ways.

That is one of the saddest parts of the whole thing. They're still going to have their ill gotten gains, they're still going to have their freedom and the most they'll get are little community orders or pointless sanctions that wont matter to them one bit.

If they are put in prison (which they all absolutely deserve, regardless of age) it will probably just push them even further into a life of crime unless they receive substantial education in the facility as well.
