Hey there guys, I hope I'm posting in the right place (forgive me first post)
Just yesterday I took the plunge and bought a gaming PC (Mac user before) It's quite the machine but when I went to install steam I was faced with a pretty big problem that has now had me trying to fix it for near on 10 flaming hours

I installed steam fine but when I start it, it goes to update and doesn't even show a percentage, It then stays like that for about 10 minutes then tells me I require an internet connection which of course I have! I've read up on this non stop and I've tried deleting the blob file, Uninstalling and installing, Checking my firewall and everything but I can't get to the problem. Steam works perfectly fine on my laptops in the house so I'm assuming it isn't a router problem? If anyone could help me I'd be so greatful, Sat here pretty glum and just want to get on and enjoy my new PC :( I'm on windows 64bit

Is this the Steam client? I've had a few issues like this myself, the only way round it for me was to keep closing Steam and then restarting it, each time it would progress a little further.

Have you tried End processing in Task manager. Soon as it crashes or when you give up, ctrl+alt+delete kill steam off there. Then try loading again?

Try turning off the firewall as well. If it still does it, thats ruled out that as a problem.
Also try disabling antivirus.

Make sure you turn them both back on of course!

Yes I've tried that, it's really the only way I can close it but then it makes no difference the next time I open it

I've tried that too and when they're off steam still is the same

Do a scandisk on the drive that steam is on, just to make sure you're not looking at a few corrupted sectors mucking up yoru install.

Ah, the only solution relating to the same problem you have I could find was to do with the ISP blocking Steam, so it could be something to do with your router or even ISP (if you're with some crazy company).

Not if it works fine on the laptops.

Edit:

Copy the directory from the laptops onto the PC. This may help.
