I find it strange that they decide to deploy 3000+ police for a riot against the banker bailout and spend all day kettling them and then when people are looting they show up the next day with loads of police. How much money is spent on police, i do not think that it is too much too ask for some pre-crime protection. Showing up afterwards to do some paper work is not that worth the money.

If i was a shop owner that was looted, i would have been disappointed in the protection of my property. But the odd thing is that this sort of thing will probably be used too take more liberties away and they will end up deploying police all over the place, stop and search will increase etc, more cameras. But when the next looting event occurs, will they show up to protect the private property?

If you take the guns and weapons away from the population the least that you could do is defend their property. If you are not prepared to do that then you have to grant the property owners the right to defend their property. The idea alone that property owners might be defending their property could be a deterrent in itself.
