BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Ok another update. Still no internet.

I was quoted for a free instillation and the first three months free and I just received a bill from BT for £170, including £99 setup.

THAT IS IT, I HAVE LOST IT.

Any advice on dealing with this criminal organization please ?
 
Only when I've had any luck with getting BT cockups sorted is contacting the CEO directly :( which I've had to do twice (both times I spent several weeks trying to chase things up through regular channels first).
 
Virgin's advertised speed is closest to the actual speed you'll get. You can get up to 100mbps with Virgin, I have 20mbps and get around 19.57mbps. Although, the upload speeds aren't as good as BT Infinity's. I get around 1.97mbps upload.

Lol, just call them. They are one of the few CS teams I've come across which can make one off corrections whenever they want. No system procedure making it problematic.
 
Well, the engineer is supposedly coming today. Been quoted 26mbps down and 5.9 mbps up. Big improvement over current ADSL, but not quite what some are getting! We'll see the exact stats after it's installed. They sent a new router and a BT Infinity engineer install kit in the post, which cracked me up as it was just a box with two small cat5 cables in it.

This is true. My installation date has been put back from May to June and now it's November as apparently BT are having problems getting the fiber into the trunking. Despite having an existing green box outside my house (they install the new boxes next to it) they are currently quoting me a whopping 25mb out of a possible 40mb :(

Bt Infinity is actually more expensive than Virgin's 50Mb package:

Virgin 50Mb (on its own, no phone required) = £35 per month

BT Infinity Unlimited (requires phone line) = £28 per month + £10 for the phone line, so £38 total.

To be fair though, Virgin's network isn't 100% fibre. It's fibre to the node and then coaxial to the house. However, even with coaxial, it can provide speeds much higher than that of copper wire. It is also much more stable than copper wire which can still be interfered even if its just the last bit to the customers house. Coaxial (or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) doesn't suffer from this.

Ignore me, I'm a massive idiot. For some reason I thought I was paying £70 for Virgin, whereas with the phone line I'm only paying £42.90.

They quoted me as getting 28mb, but I'm getting 44mb.
 
another update :(

Turns out they were going to send out a credit note to cover the £170. But when i tried to upgrade the broadband to the fiber they said that i could only get a 100gb cap on the fiber. I was quoted on the 13th of june for unlimited fiber at £35 a month and i have emails to verify this. He then argued with me and said that they have never offered unlimited. Well anyway i asked to be transferred to the cancellation department so i can get the mac code. The guy would not give me the mac code unless i know my broadband account number. Even though i had my phone line account numbers, numbers, address etc. I can't wait to get that mac code. :D

I was quoted 26 before install I got 37 on the day and its now settled down to around 31/32.

Yellow cable I got didnt work. Took me a while to figure it out too as I thought the broadband or hub was faulty. Wasn't till I swapped the yellow cable with one I knew worked that I realised.

Not true :p Well, partially.. Virgin also use copper for the last mile in the form of coax cable. There are very few ISPs offering true "Fibre to the Home".
