Steam will not update, kill me now

Yay! Only came to mind because Win 7 quite happily loads up its own generic mobo drivers without telling you when you install it, and never asks for the manufacturer specific ones.

Something similar caused me awful trouble a while back.

I would have never thought it was that however it makes sense how it's the only thing via ethernet. :D

When I usually have problems with games updating, I just right click pause updating, then resume updating a couple of times. Usually does the trick.

Useful advice, but the OP couldn't even get steam running, let alone games downloading :p

I've had a few new problems with Steam lately too. I shutdown my pc before Steam was ready for me to do so (how dare I) and when I rebooted steam.exe was gone. Completely gone, and Steam could not start. Steam support answer for the error was invalid although full service was eventually resumed by Windows System Restore (Windows in rescue shocker!).

Now everytime I try to close Steam it delays saying it is syncing with the cloud even though I was just playing a game that is not on Steam cloud. Even after this, when I go to reboot, Windows tells me that Steam is still doing something and delays the reboot. What on earth is Steam doing these days? And please stop it.

New Steam problem - now Steam refuses to start. New Steam error message too: Steam is blaming my internet connection which is unusual as it is working fine with everything else including posting this.

Is anyone else having Steam anomolies lately? I have been playing way too much Vampire the Masquerade lately so either Robin is blacklising me for abandoning TF2 or the Nosferatu are real and are jamming me.
