My New Car - Something a bit German.

lol, I've been a busy man. Will be having an M3 in a year or so, will turn up then. :p

E46? They'll all be dead in a years time given how quickly its becoming the knuckledraggers car of choice now you can buy a crap one for £9k and fit some Falkens to it :p

You can always tell when a car falls into this bracket - they start turning up, in droves, down here in Plymouth :D

Fox, not been around for a while but it appears you bought a new motor a while back. What did you go for in the end and where's thte thread?!

Solid, not my choice of 911 but that's being picky. Still a great car, I'm jealous.

He bought the 335i.
There is no thread.

What would fit onto your boxster out of interest, know a few bits are interchangeable but wasn't aware of too many.

There's loads of interchangeable bits - Porsche built these cars to share as many parts as possible. Front wings, doors, bonnet, bumpers, lights, the whole interior and most of the engine parts.

Almost all of it is, at the front the lights are the same, front bumper, wings, interior, wheels. Round the back not a lot....

Also Solid would recommend getting the front bumper off and cleaning out all the rubish from within the rads if it isn't already done, I pulled 2 plastic bags of fag buts and rotting leaves out of mine.

Yes, I've always wanted one tbh.

Already done, me and my dad changed the condenser rads for the AC about 6 weeks ago.

It has a new engine so has about 18 months of OPC warranty left, it is coming up to 9 years old, and will no doubt need money spent to satisfy Porsche conditions (simple things like tyres and condensing rads which were pattern parts) but apart from engine I can do a lot of the work myself, or know the people who can. So will be skipping on the rest of the warranty.

+10 man points to that man!

Running a car like this without warranty is a mans game! You sir deserve a cookie!

Oi, I have Falkens on my E46. Since fitting them it has done a total of 3 miles :(

Rather you than me running a 9 year old Porsche without a warranty once your engine one lapses!

In fairness the engine is the expensive bit and the warranty will or should cover all engine accillaries. :)

Other failures don't tend to be so expensive or when they fail you can fit uprated 3rd party parts, like suspension etc. :)

The engine is the most common big bill to fail, gearbox, ECU etc, tend to be very reliable.

Probably sorted in the 997 but a common issues on the earlier manual 986/996 was that the gearbox gets stiff/crunchy into second - mainly when cold. seems to get better when warmed up. Mine unfortunatly has this when cold and I haven't given it to my gearbox bloke to rebuild yet so can't comment on price. I have it being looked at in Oct but this is all worthless info as ops is a autobox.
