This is a wweak argument, and it is even debated on the official blizzard forums with a lot of WoW players disagreeing, while others claiming WoW to be 'art' openly state that they know nothing about art.

Its really some kind of forum meme that some WoW fan made up and then the rest started to copy as an excuse for why their favorite game looks terrible.

What someone likes the LOOK of is subjective. It's opinion, it's personal preference. It's why some people drive cars that others find hideous. It's why some people wear what others find ugly.

The question was not "Which MMO has the most technologically advanced graphics engine" It was "Which MMO made you drool...."

You think it looks terrible.
 
Just how exactly does 'WoW look like art'? Can you or anyone else using that phrase even explain it other than simply copying what every other WoW fan states?

Bhavv, you linked a screenshot from WoTLK there have been vast improvements since. I'd give you a screenshot but I don't play anymore :<. Anywho, back ontopic for me in MMO's its not the graphics solely that make it look brilliant it's the Aesthetics, one of the main reasons I enjoyed games like Ragnarok Online for such a long time.
 
Art Style/Direction != 'Art' in the sense you are trying to portray it.

Blizzard employs artists and designers. They have artistic assets. They have a distinct artistic direction in their WoW MMO. Borderlands has a distinct cell shaded artistic direction. Other FPS shooters go for realism. Limbo uses a black and white artistic style.

Even if wow does have a lower graphics margin, it still wipes every MMO out in game play wise... This is fact, there is no arguing about it, there are facts and figures.

I comprehend the issue of video games and their artists perfectly thanks.

However if you actually looked at your WoW 'Art' and compared it side by side to the art from Arena Net for both Guild Wars 1 + 2, you would see if you were capable of any artistic comprehension that WoW is the clear loser out of them both in terms of its Art.

Everysingle game does what you described, 'employ artists and designers'. So how is calling WoW 'art' any stronger an argument than calling any other game 'art'?

Guild Wars is art.
AoC is art.
Lotro is art.
Rift is art.

And they are all superior in their artistic / graphical quality to WoW.

You never hear any other game which has obviously used graphics artists and designers being defended as being 'art'. This is strictly an internet meme that is only used by WoW fans to try and defend how terrible the game looks, and it is a completely irrelevant and vague defense because quite clearly, everysingle game out there is also art.

I think Tera could be nicer, but the big one I'm expecting to be the new "prettiest" is Guild Wars 2.

When I was referring to "Pixel Count" I was referring to the Images I have seen of wow and other much better looking mmos.



And The fact is wow graphics engine can not compete with Rift atm, Rift is just simply better looking

Just because you like WoW does not make it the best game out there graphically.

This isnt a thread asking 'Which MMO do you like the most?'

Its a thread asking which MMO has the best graphics. Personal opinion and which game you like the most has nothing to do with it.

If you think WoW is 'graphically' the best MMO, you have to be very delusional. That would be like going into a thread asking which single player game has the best graphics and answering 'Pong'.

I can grasp the fact that everyone has the opinion, but when some one asks me the question:

"Whats the best looking mmo out there, i mean one that would make you drool like when crysis first came out ^^"

I assume they mean better looking i.e Graphically technically etc.

Like when crysis came out the graphics where one of the best (regarding FPS shooting game on pc at that current time.)

I think that heretic has better graphics than crysis because I like it more and played it for a lot longer.

Plus I much preferred the art in heretic, it was a superior to crysis therefore Heretic is more graphically superior to Crysis.

And anyone who tells me I am wrong is a kid who hasnt played FPS games as long as I have.

No, the original post meant what game made drool over, for better words were impressed by.

You think I was discussing how good a game was when I quite clearly stated it was about personal preference on it's style/gfx.

Sin_Chase isn't lying, when I played rift with him he did not like the art style at all, he made that quite clear, I even protested a little but it's his opinion and that outweighs anything else. He didn't like it, I thought it was okay.

To him, WoW is better than Rift in terms of style, can I make it any clearer?

Personal opinion has everything to do with it, if you think otherwise you've sorely misunderstood what the thread is about.
