You really think that introducing realistic recoil would enable the Battlefield Franchise to make as much money as COD ?

Don't be silly. Its a whole raft of things designed to make the game to appeal to as many people as possible.

I play on PC and consoles, and have no shortage of mates willing to get their headset on, come on live on a weeknight and team up on COD for some proper teamplay, work as a team, and take the game seriously.

We' quite hapily play COD without regenerating health, and COD does a prertty decent job with regards recoil. Its balanced, such that if you stand far away and shoot at something in the distance, and go full auto while running ,you won't hit anything. You'd have to stop and and use the ironsights.

Whos talking about realistic recoil? Show me where i said that. Ive NO clue whatsoever where you pulled that opening statement from, talk about jumping to conclusions and trying to put words in someones mouth..

Im talking about adding a degree of recoil to the weapons to differentiate them more and have them handle differently from each other, so you actually have to learn the weapon, and its not just "oh ive used an m4, time for the ak which is essentially the same thing but with a different model and skin".

I think people are over reacting to the lack of recoil, modern weapons are getting better and better at reducing recoil, not to mention these are so called expert soldiers wielding the weapons.

I agree people over estimate recoil. It's not so much recoil as bullet spread that i thought was a problem in BF3 Alpha. Look how much spread there is even at very close range from that vid. At 100m+ the spread on full auto is significant.

In the Alpha there is a real lack of spread, especially for the assault rifles like the AK.

Look all they need to do is bring back the need for having to TAP the left mouse button when firing on full auto. I don't know/care how they manage the recoil, but if I can hold down Fire while on full auto and get easy kills, something is wrong and that's what was happening in the Alpha.

Yes recoil can be easily managed especially by trained soldiers but why the hell are we not the ones controlling the recoil? Yes it may be more "realistic" to have little recoil but that assumes that all the player is doing is pointing a soldier at a target and telling him to shoot thats not how I want to play. I want to have to move my mouse down slightly to compensate for recoil. THAT is more involving and realistic.

who gives a stuff about things like that ?

I certainly don't. I played hours + hours of BF as well, so its not like i'm some COD fanboy.

This is the point i'm making. There arent interesting in making variations like that because its not going to attract the mass audience.

EA have made it blatently obvious they are going for Activision's Jugular, and intend on taking COD head on.

Equally, they're trying to take Valve head on with origin as well. Announcing today that it will force you to install origin in the same way that HL2 forced you to install steam. They are going right for valve's jugular and trying to take steams popularity away from them the way they are trying to do with Activision and COD.

Heck they've even copied the same format getting Dice to go a game every 2 years, and then a medal of honour game every 2 years on an altnerate year. So they have 1 new big game out every 12 months.

For EA, this isn't about "LOL CONSOLE DERP" its about making as much money as possible, and playing hardball with the industry heavyweights.

There was a post a while back in this thread talking about the muzzle flash in the game being unrealistic and over the top, have a lookie here:

Probably firing blanks, i.e. the 'Hollywood' effect that makes everyone think rifles have hooooge muzzle flash.

I was the one who made the post about muzzle flash, the video I posted was the US army firing the M16 at night on a range and there was bugger all flash.

Real life vs. Films

Having shot both in full auto (well, 3-5 bursts for accuracy) I can tell you they are very different guns to shoot.

And they did feel very different in the alpha.

Rightly so aswell, they shoot very different bullets.

As I said, you dont need to do anything other than base the guns on their real life counter-parts, no need to imagine recoil, you just use real life values.

Doesnt look like blanks with the kick its giving, ive fired an mp40 loaded with blanks before, slower rate of fire but it basically felt like a cap gun, noise but zero kick to it.

Maybe people that actually want to learn different weapons as opposed to opposing sides having the same weapons only with a different model and skin? It adds more to the gameplay having to learn how a weapon behaves, its not just a matter of being proficient with 1 weapon then you can use them all equally well. Apparently having a bit of variety in a game is a bad thing now and its cloned weapons all the way!

Too many games have this apporach of weapons being carbon copies in terms of stats, the only real difference is the model, skins and animations. Dunno about you but id actually like games to have more weapons, as opposed to more skins and models that have stats of other weapons copied and pasted in.

And neither would it drive them away, its a Battlefield game and will attract fans of the franchise, i doubt very much they will acquire many COD players as that lot seem pre-programmed to just stick with their run and gun shooter.

They can try all they like, i doubt they will get close to the install base that steam has.

Well BC2 was basically just a port done on the side, Dice have already said they wouldn't be able to put out a game on that kind of schedule as the quality would suffer. BC2 and BF3 being launched a year after each other was a one off at best. Medal of honor on the other hand hasn't had a really good game since Allied Assault so theyre firing on all cylinders to try and get that brand back upto scratch.
