2011 A level results day thread

Well..

Maths: A
Physics: A
Chemistry: A

One mark off an A* in Physics as well...worth a remark? :D

As said previously, I didn't get any offers so going through clearing. Been offered a place at York to do Physics but I won't be able to get any accomodation. Leeds said they would ring back later.

How on earth did you end up with no offers off the back of that?

Well done btw :D

Well I think as of right now, Newcastle is higher then Kent in most ranks, saw something a while ago about it. Not to bothered where I'm situated in the country tbh, both places have their ups and downs. Does anyone here know if Kent has a good party scene/nightlife?

I was at Kent for three years...night life is poo. Beautiful place though but so out of the way considering the proximity to London. BUT as previously mentioned, best weather in the UK!

What the hell is "Critical Thinking" sounds like bs tbh

You summed it up nicely. I remember doing it for AS and it was compltely pointless, on the same level as General Studies.

The head of the college taught our class and even he didn't bother putting 100% in because no one cared. I think I got a B and that was zero work other than the few rare in class discussions we had and then the utter waste of an exam at the end.

Given that choice I would go with Newcastle, better quality of life for a student to be honest and thats not just counting the city and nightlife etc. Everything is more expensive down south, food, housing etc.

Good old Critical Thinking. If I remember rightly, I completely bombed that subject in the exam despite being a relatively intelligent and capable guy. To this day I still have no idea how I did so badly, nor do I particularly care.

Finally,

I got into Hull and am doing a MEng :)

Thing I don't understand is,

All my life I have not revised a single time, GCSES no revision and I got 9 A's and an A*

AS levels I did no revision and got BBC

A2s I work my arse off try really hard and get CCC?

I should have just not tried. Oh well I'm happy I got in.

They wanted BBB and I got CCC and still accepted me, maybe my track record and my personal statement saved me, I'm happy though.

You will enjoy it at Hull. I did physics there (hence my username) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Enjoyed living there and enjoyed studying there. Much preffered it to Birmingham University where I did my Masters.

You will get to know and love the Robert Blackburn building and the Brynmor Jones library is above and beyond any other university library. It's absolutely the perfect place to study on a quiet afternoon. Just ride the lift to the top floor, find a table by the windows and you can revise or study in complete peace. The view's pretty good when you get bored too!

At least I still have a chance of getting into medical school :)

Wouldn't worry too much on the AS front - a mate got a medicine offer from Keele and he was on AABB at AS. He did lots of lifeguarding and random first aid courses along with loads of work experience at a GP surgery and all the medilink stuff as well though, and he says that that kind of thing is more important than getting super duper UMS scores. Unfortunately he missed his offer (he got ABB and should have been AAB), probably as a result of spending too long organising the cadet force.

To add to this, I'm also at Hull uni and its a superb place to study at and be around. The campus and surrounding areas are all fully student focused and most of the locals are friendly. As soon as you get your welcome pack through from the uni, start having a look at some of the societies! Best way to kick off your social life and befriend more than just your fellow coursemates, opening all sorts of opportunities...

Thanks, I was going to firm hull, but I got the whole "You should aim higher" speech off my parents so firmed loughborough (was never going to get in) and insurance'd Hull.

Will hopefully be staying at the lawns but insurance choice people get 2nd priority I believe. Anyway, I am looking forward to going to Hull. :)

Just got accepted to both Kent and Newcastle uni's, both for computer science. Why couldn't one just accept me, now I gotta go through some moral dilemma figuring out which i should go too.

Hey, congratulations! I've just finished my first year of Computer Science at Newcastle so if you have any questions then I'm more than happy to help. :)

I studied law at hull and agree with physicshull's comment above. Really good uni and the library is second to none :)

Yeah, I have everything else in place, so hopefully I should be okay :)

If you don't get in at the lawns there are plenty of student houses available that are run by the uni down Cottingham Road, Salmon Grove and Cranbrook Ave. They are all a lot of fun, but try and get the Lawns as a priority.

Does anyone know what the likelihood of getting accepted into a course is if it is still pending?
Overall i'm missing 2.5% or something annoyingly close.

Also can i apply for clearing wherever i want even if i'm accepted on my insurance. (Really not keen on it.)

Congratulations to everyone who has got what they wanted and commiserations to those who haven't - it's always worth bearing in mind that while it may make things more difficult there are usually still ways to achieve whatever you want even with less than ideal results.
