Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

love my Type R, EP3 > FN2 :)

Get it chipped if you have one, its an amazing mod. Much lower torque and doesn't take forever to get into VTEC. Feels like a new car.

I bought mine a year ago and it's so far been faultless. Not swapping the car unless I go bankrupt. I can't see a more practical / sporty type of car which can also be quite kind on petrol if driven carefully.

This should get you watering ( not mine )

Skeeter on this forum is a vigorous defender of reliable, fun and cheap hatchbacks. The EP3 CTR makes it to the top of his list year after year. "There just isn't anything as fun on four wheels".

He is currently in the process of negotiating on that very car so I'd snap it up before he does!

You serious? He can't steal my car :p

I'd have this one, seems well looked after and has nice mods to it

TBH IMO he's ruined that car. It's a Premier edition, which come with the best seats! yet he's gone and replaced them with those cloth ones?

Thanks for all the responses btw, I'm getting more convinced as the evening goes on :D

I'd love the Premier edition which caries a higher price, but they seem to be few and far between in Standard form with low owners.

I want to find myself a nice well looked after example and pay a touch more for it knowing that it's in good condition without needing to be worried about, I do feel rather :\ about getting rid of the 306 though. I've spent a lot of hours on that car, fitting a new clutch, replacing the rear beam mounts, making up all the intercooling pipework for it, fitting the intercooler then remapping it (well, flashing the ecu). It also had the cambelt and tensioners done last year at great expense!

but... Fuel costs wise, If I assume the Civic will do 30mpg (on a very very good grandad driving day) and my 306 does 45mpg.. then over the course of 6000 miles the Civic should cost me just shy of £400 more in fuel. Which isn't bad :)

It's common that you can buy an inferior but newer car for the same money as a better example. Infact its nothing but logical - the demand for the Corolla is low - because it's not as good as the Civic - therefore price falls.

Couldn't disagree with you more, the Corolla isn't a good alternative.

As Fox mentioned, it isn't as popular because it isn't very good, frustratingly he's right. :p

Its good to know people who have driven and have a fair bit of experiance with both cars can share such insightful information

Fact of the matter remains, I've driven both and not just one example of each, the facelift T-Sport is just as good if not better in some areas than a CTR, anyone looking to buy a CTR should give the facelift T-Sport a try if only for the engine similarities and then if you prefer the CTR then thats fair enough

In this thread: Relentless tries to convince himself and others he got the Corolla because it was good not because they were going cheap.

Facelift Corolla T-Sport vs CTR, very seriously.

i owned a corolla t sport and really loved it for what it was, but really it isnt the same as an ep3, they fill different roles. You could look at it like a car for people who dont want a ep3, they thought they did, then when they drove one didnt like the firm ride or noise etc and then test drove a corolla found it offered some of the same things but in a much tamer and softer way. Whilst both appear to be quite similar in many respects they are two very different animals.

Oh no please, anything but that!

Well from 2002-2008 I worked for toyota at Portbury doing PDI's on all vehicles, including the sad little corrolla (all models including a few Kompressors) until it was binned.

Not to many photos to pove it, but heres one I got when they bought the last season F1 car to get photographed with a special Hilux.

From 2008- to present I work for Honda at Avonmouth, doing, guess what? PDIs again, I have driven all manner of Honda cars from Jazz's to Mugen CTR's

Heres the Mugen CTR after it crashed at the Goodwood festival of speed,

So ultimately I have driven both cars and fully understand what a pile of turd the Corrolla is.

And before you say the EP3 was stopped production before I started, we have used cars come back too for refurb/repair/general stuff;)

Is the car in my opening post priced correctly? They claim that the A/C was a £1500 optional extra when new. But parkers shows it to only be £1000 ;)

I might drive up in the morning to view it.
