The reason why Free To Play MMO's are destroying the Genre

So basically if every MMO had fees, people would only play one at at a time. That is THE reason why the subscription fee is destroying MMOs because people cant play more than one at the same time. Almost the entire gaming base that is willing to pay fees are glued to WoW, leaving very few players for other MMOs, because the people subbed to WoW wont pay for anything else.

BECAUSE THEY LIKE WHAT WOW IS OFFERING!!! Seriously can you not comprehend that?

If they didn't like WoW they would leave.

Is that really hard to comprehend?

When MMOs lose the fees, and players can log in and play whichever one they want, people will be able to buy and play several MMOs, as they always have done with single player games. In fact thats what I already do - in a single month I can play a little bit of each GW, Lotro, DDO, and even AoC if I want to.

Right, thats fine for you, but i personally like to invest my time into 1 MMO. The same goes for the vast majority of the MMO genre. Proved by the P2P subscription numbers.

But you couldnt do that if everyone of them games had fees, you could only play one meaning far fewer sales and income for the rest as people are only paying for one at a time.

If a MMO launched tomorrow that offered everything that WoW does, but better in every way, do you not for one second think that the vast majority of there subscription base would move?

People play WoW because its fun, easy and very very polished.

Rift is a good example that if you provide good polished content you can get the numbers.

Therefore FTP is definitely SAVING the MMO Genre, while fees are destroying it.

F2P is the Beko of washing machines, they produce rubbish at minimal cost for maximum profit which only hurts the customer, while Bosch and Miele produce top quality washing machines at a smaller profit and the quality vastly benefits the customer, this is why P2P is VASTLY better then F2P.

what ever happened to POPF (pay once play forever)

Its not profitable for the company. For you to buy WoW and all expansions, i doubt Blizzard would have earned enough money to have supported that game through there patchs, servers and other development costs.

Thats called Guild Wars 1 / 2 :)

Right, because the MILLIONS of £$£$££$ that Blizzard earn through WoW isnt milking the gaming community dry, and without this much money WoW wouldnt have been supported .

TBH if they only charged £2.99 a month, they would still make more than enough profit on WoW.

Sigh. Yet more slandering of GW / GW2 / Lotro / DDO / AoC? ... :D

this is why P2P is VASTLY better then F2P.

Yet I have never found a single P2P game that is vastly better than GW. Why is that then?

Blizzard charge the standard acceptable rate at which all P2P models follow.

They charge you for expansions which all previous and current MMO's do and a monthly fee. I hardly call that bleeding dry. Say compared to the F2P industry.

They where P2P before people abandoned them.

But they are FTP now.

But every FTP game I've ever played, including Asian ones are far far far far cheaper than the standard P2P ones are. I hardly call that bleeding dry if fees arent.

Personal opinion. 12 Million PEOPLE like WoW. That is there opinion.

You like GW, that is your opinion.

P2P is more successful then F2P, this is fact, supported by numbers.

Really is it this hard to understand?

This isnt true, people will continue to pay for WoW because they have connections with their chars, if they stop paying then they lose all the time they put into the game.

People also make connections and friendships within the game and without paying they could lose these.

TLDR: Just because they are paying a sub doesn't mean they like the game

But they are FTP now.

You could argue the reasons why until the cows come home, but the question is, did people leave because it was a bad game, or did they move to free to play because it was more profitable. Either way, its bad for the customer.

The example in the OP shows that F2P use tricks and ploys to make you buy things.

Now if you don't fall for them, good for you. But the vast majority of people do and that is why F2P is still around.

P2P isnt more successful than F2P, WoW is the only successful P2P game followed by Aion.

You are constantly slandering any F2P game in this thread, yet the people who are playing them consistently find them to be far better value and better than WoW (in their opinion).

Why exactly are you so butthurt over games other than WoW and Aion being FTP if they need to be in order to be successful?

Then more the fool them.

If i don't like Fosters larger i don't drink it. I wont drink it because my friends tell me to.

I give up. Its like urinating into the wind, it only gets your legs wet.

If you can not comprehend simple logic and reasoning, then i may as well talk to my 28 week old child.

If you can not comprehend simple logic and reasoning

You arent using any of that, your only argument in this thread is:

'FTP games are simply terrible. They just are, and they milk people dry of all their money'.

You havnt made a single logical argument at all, just whine whine whine FTP is destroying the world!!! Whine whine whine.

Posting crap like this is not logic or reason:

F2P is the Beko of washing machines, they produce rubbish at minimal cost for maximum profit which only hurts the customer, while Bosch and Miele produce top quality washing machines at a smaller profit and the quality vastly benefits the customer, this is why P2P is VASTLY better then F2P.

:D <--- This will be my face after GW2 is released and pwns every PTP game currently out there.

Played Archlord for 2 years, loved it, if it had decent support and regular expansion packs it would have been a successful free to play game. Hardly spent money in the game either.

More then HALF of the entire MMO genre is playing WoW.

Think this more then proves my point.

Pay to Play content is a trap.

You play the trial, oh yay I like this, pay, get to end-game and it's just not all that cracked up to be.

Lol, revenue for MMO's that went F2P went up by a massive margin.

Exactly, AND the players are actually paying LESS money than they do with fees, but there are more players paying for the microtransactions because they are a lot cheaper.

Think this more then proves my point.

Useless graphs, doesnt include the millions on people in the world playing FTP games, and pay to play subscribers are not the whole MMO community.

Subscriptions are just easier to count and put into a spreadsheet than active subscriptions in a FTP game are, that is simply all.

The "Active Accounts" part of the 2nd graph is used to show F2P. Since it doesn't even break 1 million users, its not shown ;)

Here is one for the F2P. Looks like Second Life is the most played F2P game. Where is Guild Wars???
