*feels like i'm spamming now, someone else post summet lol*

James J, that guitar picture, Is that cropped? or can you actually get that close within focus range?

If so how how much can you crop by before you loose too much quality?
I have loads of pics that I feel would benifit from being cropped but I darent incase It sacrifices too much quality lol

Not cropped at all mate but if you use the nikon viewnx software yo can go right into 1:1 ratio to see what the true quality of the photo is. If its good, be confident doing a 100% crop :D

Some stuff on my flickr is 100% crop due to the setup I used, like the butterfly, fly and bee photos.

The focus range/DOF at the focal length I used was about an inch across the centre of the fretboard (ish). Used single point focus and single shutter servo for it.

ah right cheers mate,
I used to use viewnx as Nikon dont offer a .NEF/RAW codec for windows 7 64-bit :/ (no idea why)

I use lightroom now and my zoom mark is set to 1:1 which I'll assume is the same thing? lol

So does that mean If the quality is clear and sharp @ 1:1, does that mean you could crop to that size without loosing quality?
I thought the more you crop, the more pixels you loose and the worse the quality gets?

Yup and yup! Nah cropping just gets rid of the pixels outside of the crop area, lowering the overall resolution of the image. If you cropped and expanded the image to the original res, you'd definitely lose image quality.

I usually take "L" (large) photos instead of the medium and small presets on the camera just so I have more mp to play with if I want to crop, still giving me an image that can potentially be printed out at a large size.

Thought I'd do a quick test of my galaxy s 2's camera whilst bored on the train the other day.

Not bad considering it's a phone and was having to deal with rubbish light and my shakey hand thanks to the movement of the train.

Just been to pay my respects to an 18 year old lad who died 1 street away from me and took my camera with me.

A closer up photo for the world to see that dying at 18 is just truly awful.

Sometimes I honestly hate my own photographic style as I find these photos absolutely harrowing :(
