If the viewing angle was exactly overhead (like the first few GTA games) then it would be fine, but the angled view coupled with the information bar at the bottom messes up my view. Come at me (bro) from the sides or the top and I am fine, come from the bottom and I don't fair too well for some reason.
That sounds more like a map awareness issue than FoV. You should have an eye on the mini-map at all times, watching for enemy icons and being aware where they are and probably more importantly, where they are not.
To learn map awareness, take a support bottom lane and take flash clairvoyance. Use the clairvoyance as a little mini-game as soon as it comes up and try to predict where a hidden enemy will be. Get used to having one eye on what you are doing and the other on what the game state is and where the threat is.
