Just called Capital One to tell them not to stop any transactions from CarphoneWarehouse on my account and talked to some Indian lady. I just hope she heard me correctly and didn't think i said "stop transactions from CPW" :/

I hate Indian call centres :(

also one more thing, i have an email from argos, it says reserved from thursday to tuesday with a reservation number. Does that mean one in stock has been allocated or is it a load of rubbish?

i dont know how argos reserve works!

Well, Argos claim that they're contemplating the price drop within 24 hours. Sit tight.

I'm guessing they'll be trying to negotiate something with HP or their distros to send them back, then they will ship them off else where. They've probably had some hanging about for ages.

TBH this was a very unusual situation and i suspect that people were ordering faster than the stock counter could work.

This. Imagine the order process goes like this:

- Check item is in stock
- Process payment etc

Despite the gap between those two steps probably being 2ms or so, there's still probably a hundred or so people who're all processing and placing orders during that period, and that period will become even longer when the site slows down/grinds to a halt.

Quick suggestion for those that are getting them;

I have a case for mine (HP one that's also a stand) and just ordered the HP KB from BB.
Decided against the charging stand for us it would be useless.

All the accessories are now showing up about 1/2 price, so grab them whilst you can as stock does seem limited too !

Just got an email through from that My Hub service that was thrown in with the Touchpad from CPW. Says its ready to use.

Also just received my Order Invoice from Best Buy.

I have never had a situation where an Argos in store reservation has not been available when going to collect it.

The fact that they are so freely extending any reservations suggests they are confident of price cuts and are keen to get rid of them all. (as someone extending their reservation will likely go and pick it up)

The CPW system is different in that for mobile phones there is a gap between order confirmation and acceptance.

In normal circumstances, they would rather have a customer wait a couple of days for their order than lose a customer because an item is 'out of stock' when it really isn't (i.e. not all of the orders placed will be accepted)

Obviously this is a completely exceptional event, in that: 1) There won't be such a gap between order confirmation and acceptance (these aren't mobile phones with contracts); 2) They were being hit with an absolutely ridiculous number of orders; 3) The item is being discontinued so getting more stock in may prove more difficult.
