Idiot copper on emergency bikers-CH5

Me and the wife were just saying that. So she's at least taken the effort to insure the car for sdp but now has a 200 fine and 6 points. Compare that with the usual scumbags on these programmes that have stolen cars, no licenses and get virtually nothing.

That'll be why I don't respect the filth.

a) its the government that set the laws, not the police, so its not their fault with sentencing etc.

b) She was in the wrong, she didn't have the proper insurance and got done for it. Imagine if she hits your kid (if you have one) and puts them in a wheel chair for life, but her insurance turns around and says they aren't paying because she was using it for business. How would you feel about it then?

c) ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law.

You sound like one of those people that complain about parking attendants giving tickets out. Really annoys me because to get a ticket, you were in the wrong, you are just annoyed because you were caught.

I'd lol because the insurance company by law would have to pay out regardless.

Well thankfully that would never happen.

Of course it is, just depends on which law.

Anyone just been watching, he stopped the lady for no seatbelt and issued her a ticket, fair enough.

Then he checks her insurance (she delivers sandwiches as part of her job) and because she is only registered for SDP he gives her another penalty notice this one with £200 fine and 6 points.

Absolutely pedantic, there was no reason for it she clearly didn't have a clue about the insurance policy, he could have given her a warning about it but never.

Not really, if she is reguarely delivering sandwhiches in her car it doesnt take a genius to figure out you need buisness insurance. Hell I drive an MX-5 and at most I have to drive between a couple of sites 5 minutes apart maybe once a week and even I have buisness insurance to cover that!

I wonder if you'd say the same if it happened to YOUR wife or sister.

I don't believe someone being a relative gives something the excuse not to obey the law. Fine if they want to flout it, I do it with speeding, but you have to live with the consequences of your actions.

Quite - this is what confuses me about the entire thing. Disputes contractually between the insurer and the insured do not waive the insurers obligation under the Road Traffic Act therefore I cannot see how she was legally uninsured, therefore I cannot see what the 6 points were for.

And so he should...next question...

It's a woman I bet when she got the insurance she phoned up and said "will it cover me for xxx", the other party probably said yes.

If you use your car for the motor trade then yeah most people will expect it to have business/motor trade insurance.

She clearly didn't know about it, he could have given her a warning no need to give the 6 points. Police officers can use there own brain in situations, there not some robots that have to follow the rulebook.

ha, class. Yep that's exactly it B&W - the person in a call center (probably a woman, amirite?) miss-sold her insurance. She's clear in my eyes now, stick it to the feds.

There's a saying "wish for others what you wish for yourself", in your case I hope it hits you hard. ;)

A few sandwiches in a car is hardly major fraud compared to say delivering tons of material in a wagon or carrying around people in a mini bus, where people can get hurt and massive damage can occur.

A stern warning or let them ring up on the at the scene and then and change the policy, takes what 5 minutes on the phone these days.

Why would the other party miss an opportunity to hike the premium?

She clearly didn't know about it

Then she is dim - only somebody who cannot read would think 'Social, Domestic and Pleasure' actually meant 'Business'.
