Samsung smartphones now banned in the EU

Other companies (such as Nokia, Motorola/google and Microsoft) don't use their patents aggressively, preferring to compete on merit...

Umm.. Patents such as "multi touch" just seem to hurt innovation and not improve it. I find the idea of patenting an idea stupid, why not just patent the implementation? Anyhow, I can imagine a lot of companies are going to team up against Apple after this especially the companies who use Android.

I'm not saying Apple are right to do this, but the flaw is with the system as well. Obviously such obvious and general things shouldn't be admissible in court.

Well that's not true at all. That entire industry is always suing each other. In fact I believe that in the US Apple are currently suing HTC and also the other way round. I swear it's a normal business practice for them.

It be funny if one of the patterns Google now own from Motorola is something the long the lines of "the ability to wirelessly communicate" and then only sue apple. One can dream

Like I said in an earlier thread, Apple just want a monopoly as they know competitors are really threatening their existence. One only has to look at the increasing Android market share.
Sadly this means that us consumers are going to suffer, great..

*phew* I'm relieved. i thought for a moment there you were an AppleZombie!

Perfect fix, I was going to say:

'Its about time Apple stopped copying Nokia'.
:D :D

Agreed. it's all a bit immature of apple to be throwing their toys out of the pram just because their phones are being outsold at an incredible rate.

I think Apple actually think they are going to get away with this, I wonder how long it will be till all the shiny surfaces become dust magnets and Apple are pleading in court :D.
As they say, if you fight with fire prepare to get burnt.

Don't Samsung produce a lot of the components for Apple's products e.g. screens and the like?

Yes, I know that Samsung are not daft enough to reduce their profits by stopping the production to Apple but then Apple seem hell bent in doing that anyway by stopping Samsung from selling products itself

Flash storage yes. Screens I don't know. I know that Samsung do manufacture screens. But I don't know if they supply Apple. The pool of ODMs to pull screens from though is pretty low. There's AU optronics, Samsung, LG/Philips are the big ones I can remember off the top of my head. I know that Samsung are suing AU optronic over screen patents though.
