Samsung smartphones now banned in the EU

I don't think using different sized images should really count, they didn't actually edit it.

As for the Samsung thing... it's a photo frame? Not really comparable.

Editing the size of the phone isn't as bad, but it definitely still shows an intention to mislead.

The Samsung photoframe is comparable on the basis of Apple's patent, which was for gadgets of that design.

If the images were different sized, then the Samsung model would either look taller, or thinner than the Ipad due do its different aspect ratio.

As for the photo frame comparison, I was referring to its design which actually came before the Ipad.

I think he was talking about the iPhone and Galaxy comparison image, rather than the iPad and Galaxy Tab image.

Well in that case Polaroid should sue everyone :p

I was talking about the phone, look at the quote and read my previous post :)

Exactly! Apple seem to think, or are at least trying to claim, that they "invented" that design despite the fact that there were a lot of devices before the iPad that used that "slate" type of design.

Look at how many TVs and monitors would look exactly the same if you removed the stand from them.

This is will calm down one Google start flexing the patents they bought off Motorola. They will effectively look to protect the handset providers that give Android such a good name.

They're claiming they have the patent on it, which I believe they do? They're just taking advantage of a broken system.

By saying that Samsung are "slavishly copying" the design of the iPhone and iPad, which aspect of mobile phone technology does this concern? Like if it's the touch-screen idea, then well, I had a Sony Ericsson P910i and that's a similar shape to the iPhone but 2 years before iPhone came out. And the iPad? That's marketing more than anything else. Pace beat Apple by 9 years, and I was providing IT support for them from 2003.

I know that's what they're actually doing, but they're claiming it's their design. I know it's a broken system, but I'm sure that patents are thrown out if it can be demonstrated that things of that design (in this case) existed before the patent.

It's ridiculous that they were ever granted a patent for it in the first place of course because of generic a design it is in the drawings, as I said before, it could be mistaken for a lot of TVs or monitors with their stands removed.

The Patent Alledgedlly breached is:

[0001] The disclosed embodiments relate generally to portable electronic devices, and more particularly, to portable devices for photo management, such as digital photographing, 5 photo editing, and emailing photos.

It is the way the phone displays and handles digital photos which apparently Apple have got a patent on for the iPhone.

havn;t sam sung had this overturned after it turned out apple had photo shopped the pics to make them look more like an iphone/ipad and the retarded German judge dint think to actually check the products??

All the people criticising Apple should look at the daft cases other companies have had (are having..) with each other over the last 10 years.

Its just cool to hate on Apple at the moment so it suddenly becomes big media news.

The ban was very recent, articles only came up earlier today.

There are several lawsuits that were filed in different countries - the shopped images were used in Germany, but todays somplete EU ban was judged in The Hague.

I don't think any one is claiming other companies haven't done similar things, or that it's wrong for them to do so either. Apple is a very big company with quite a "public presence", it's no wonder they're in "media" because of such things.

I know you're an Apple user, but come one do you really have to imply that it's only Apple being criticised because all the other companies guilty of the same/similar actions in the history of the word aren't being mentioned at the same time?

Not at the same time, rather they weren't mentioned at the relevant time.
No one used to care, hell if it was Nokia vs Samsung I'm pretty sure people still wouldn't care.
