Counter Strike Global Offensive rumours

Just watched the trailer on steam, I cant believe they think we might be impressed with that, it looks like it came out 5 years ago. I know CS is not all about graphics but to make a game looking like that in 2011 just seems lazy.

Crysis came out 4 years ago? CSS came out 7 years ago. Looks as good as any other online shooter on the whole.

the hardcore should be ignored on the whole. Need some innovation.

This is the source of my disappointment so far, I was expecting something new and innovative, it just looks exactly the same with marginally better graphics.

I would usually moan but I was quite impressed by that gameplay trailer , they seemed to have nailed down the original "feeling" of cs unlike source but not too sure on the radial menu but doesn't bother me too much if you can still buy items with keys and lol at cross-platform support if the ps3 version doesn't have aim assist

Ah right, fair enough :) I guess just like DoTA 2, Valve have bowed to the pressure of the hardcore to just copy and paste the game with better graphics and a few new maps.

Watch that trailer back to back with the BF3 trailer and tell me that with a straight face.

Well yes, you have your Frostbites 2 and Cryengine 3s etc, but I don't think anyone could honestly expect the Source engine to compete with those? I imagine the graphics are on a par with Portal 2ish, which will no doubt be sufficient for the purpose of the game.

I believe Gabe Newell said in an interval that they see no point writing a completely new engine, and instead slowly upgrade the current one as they see sufficient for each new project.

ps3 can use move and afaik has kb/m support!

Don't get the "feeling" of original cs at all tbh, source on an acid trip maybe :p

My biggest gripe so far is the fact that only 2 cts per round (chosen at random) get defuse kits, hoping this gets changed asap.

Cue the haters hating because some small things have changed.

Like usual, it would seem most of the hardcore just want CS 1.6 with better graphics, which is why the hardcore should be partially ignored on the whole. Need some innovation.

Shut Up. :p

I've played since beta 1.0 - and one of the few who prefer source over 1.6... all I said was that based on that footage I am left underwhelmed, it looks like a step back in my eyes and more inline to support consoles... surprising when it's launched across the 360 and PS3 also (note the sarcasm on "surprising") - just wouldn't be surprised if PC owners get dumped on again with another console aimed game - and let's be realistic consoles are a mass market now with the new generation of CoD kiddies so Valve will want to cash in on that market

I will still give it a good run for it's money assuming I can get on the mentioned beta in October time; and one thing which does look great are the maps... the extra part of dust looks brilliant as does the Molotov, that is going to change the game in a big way... and a good way (i hope)

I want 1.6 with today's graphics (that isn't source..). That almost certainly will not happen. If you want innovation, play a different title.

I just watched the trailer. Hard to really gauge much but it doesn't look too bad actually.

I prefer 1.6 over CSS, but lately even I can see 1.6 is pretty much going no where fast.

Anyway, aside from my point of view with 1.6, I have been open minded about this new 'Global Offensive' game in getting back to the roots of Counter-Strike, like it was before all the 'CPL/eSport' nature of the game came into play. It seems they have taken that into account with their approach and I can see some of the ideas that were originally planned for Condition Zero (before it had development problems and was completely changed) thrown back into this, especially the molotov. On the whole, the game looks dated and worse than CSS. I like the layout of the new dust, and the similarish L4D2 aspect to it, but the secondary crosshair? the player models? the gun models? the animations? the cluttering of the map? they look bad for a source game in 2011. Maybe it has a lot of work still to be done in those parts, but releasing a video showing this off, gives me the feeling they seemed quite pleased with it as it is in its current state to do that.

I don't want a CS game that emulates 1.6 or CSS, I want one that goes back to what the game was all about before the eSport side of it came in. Sure it can cater for that aspect too (I'd like to see it as well) but the core gameplay is at the moment, below both 1.6 and CSS standards - which are far older games. If this is a way to make it simpler for the console crowd and the cod kiddies like many have said, then they've almost succeeded, and on that aspect alone it seems a real turn off for both CS camps (1.6 and Source). I just don't see how Valve are going to entice CS players from both camps with what they seem to be doing with Global Offensive.

Oh well, there's still CS2 to look forward to I suppose.:o:p

Really surprised to hear you say this Secret Window, turning their back on eSport community completely is a horrible idea.

As much fun as CS was as my first serious FPS game, going from cs_747, backalley, vertigo etc on public, nothing can come close to matching a 5 v 5 clan game. If they simply cater for the COD community then it's a massive step backwards and quite honestly they won't be able to compete.

If console gamers could get a taste of 5 vs 5 organised matches then they would never look at the cod series in the same way again!

although a lot of people dont playwant to wait around till the round ends to be able to play again, this is why people like deathmatch etc

I'm sure they could introduce or develop some sort of pro mod (lets not talk about CSP, in fact lets pretend it never existed) ala Quake3 but there has to be at least potential to make it into a competitive game.

Sorry, I should've elaborated more on what I meant regarding eSport side of things.

What I meant to say was I'd like them to get the gameplay mechanics right first, then eSport things second. If they go straight into eSport or public game in mind first, they might screw up the balance of things and make it even less popular. I want a game that brings back the days of the CPL as much as anyone, but it's the gameplay that has to be fixed/done right first in order to help that happen. The eSport/pro side of gaming in CS should build off the gameplay - just like the previous versions did. We already know what happens when you do it backwards (see CS Pro Mod) - that's all I'm saying.

I do get what you are saying regarding game-play. It would be a massive change for the console community if the tools were in place for actual organised 5 vs 5 games. Really think once they got a taste for it, they would never look back.

I've just seen the video footage of this in action and I've gotta say I'm now very excited.

The thing that does it for me? They have brought back the fixed animation for headshot deaths. In 1.6 it was that same *reward* every time when you got a headshot, in CSS it's just ragdoll and doesn't feel anywhere near as satisfying. A very clever move.

There's something SO satisfying about seeing your enemy fly backwards with their legs in the air. Megusta.
