****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Yes they have.

I have a Cyanogemod engineer on my Google+ and they've done it.

HTC have also have released tools to unlock the bootloader on ALL HTC devices. Present and Future..... They have a website and everything.

It costs £9.90 to get the original samsung mesh case for the SGSII which completely changes the 'feel' of the device if thats all that matters ;)

A case? No thank you!!

Saying that, there has been a revision that's due to be released in the USA that's got curved edges and also a metallic backing. The internet has more info - I'm just lazy and can't be bothered supplying the link.

Anyways, even if this was the case, it's still an ugly design, and the resolution is still not as high as it should be! :)... but damn, it's a powerful phone!!!

You don't have to tell me about htcdev.com - I'm a member there mate ;)

So the official unlock voids most of your warranty - HTC can also keep a track on which handsets have been 'modified' as they call it. I can see that going down well - its gone down a storm on XDA already lol

And the 'unofficial' hack hasn't been released yet - bummer

Screen is a lottery on the Sensation also (allot of complaints about it) - Deathgrip is a big issue having experienced this myself also.
Camera is the usual HTC effort, memory is less - other than being 'more powerful' the SGSII still has much more technically

Its a no-brainer as to which device is the better 'built' device.

ONLY thing Sensation had going for it is HTC sense 3.0 - but even thats being ported to the SGSII as I type ;)

Sorry mate, I underestimated how involved you were in the mobile world :) I agree with everything you say though.

I guess it just comes down to resolution and a horrible chassis for me
I just hate the physical form of the galaxy S 2. If it was within the sensations body, I would have bought it already.

I never thought resolution would alter my judgement on a phone but noticing slight pixelation on icons on an unquestionable beautiful screen is just a no-no for me, especially when ill be forced to wait 18 months for an uoggrade.

Ill stick with the ol' trusty desire untilled the Prime comes out....

Oh, sense I'd horrible. I hate it. I'd flash either cyanogenmod or miui as soon as I got either phone - this is probably my major decision over which phone to purchase next - it has to have full Dev support as the Desire has had!

Well the past few hours has been busy round these parts I see...!

The flimsy back cover might be bendy when off the phone but it's unbreakable (literally) and once on the phone the whole device is solid with no give. Mine has dropped on laminate floor and kitchen flooring a few times without as much as a crack, only some scuffs on the bezel. I know if it has been an aluminum shelled phone there would be chipped metal and dents...

Anyway, moving on to the resolution of the GSII, what don't you like about it? I assume you don't like the big icons etc and if that's the case simply use a different launcher and customise the icon grip layout or install a dpi changer app to increase/decrease the dpi to your liking.

My handset looks like this:

Also, the resolution might be lower than phones like the iPhone 4 but the browser actually fits more content on screen than it. The higher resolution on the Sensation does not allow you to get more icons on screen by default anyway so the increase in resolution only serves the purpose of slightly sharper text.

Oh I'd never compare it to the iphone4 lol.

It still seems like I have just as much space in my desire as the galaxy s 2 IMO.
I do welcome your arguments though as I want to convince myself its a worthy purchase, but I just can't do it. Its like being a female and knowing how brilliant Stephen Hawkins is but you'd still not want to take him out for a date though :-P

Probably about 85% of people in this thread who have an SGSII upgraded from a Desire, myself included. It is a bit of a monster upgrade in terms of speed and power increase as well as weight and slimness.

The resolution on the Sensation is excellent however. The build quality is also a HELL of a lot better. It's heavier, but this is definitely a good thing. Just think - Plastic in your hands, or metal - Obviously metal's going to feel more sturdy and secure/expensive.

I really don't understand why so many people think this way.

Exactly. Samsungs build quality over the past year has been far better than HTC's. Pick any HTC phone released in the last 12 months, grip it, twist it, squeeze it. It will creak, groan and bend far more than Samsung devices do.

The Sensation for example, the first thing I noticed is the screen will rock side to side slightly within the back cover?!?! The Desire HD and Desire Z had too many build quality issues to list here...

The SGSII is so solid, just because it's light people say its poor quality... if they bought a Zonda, would they take it back and ask for heavier panels to be fitted to it?

The GS2 has mega dev support and already has MIUI and CyanogenMod for it, I like MIUI myself and it can only get better as its developed more and the same goes with CM, but personally I don't like Cm at all.

u guys know i love cm7... but gotta admit that Batista70 is pretty dam nippy, uninstalled a few bits and had to sort uk settings, but liking the rom...

Oh really? This is interesting news.

Out of all the phones available I can see this one replacing the Desire in terms of support and fanboyism, which is what you really need.

Do I buy one, or wait until October for Samsungs next juicy offering?...

I might give it a go, what things do you like about Batista over cm7?

With regards to the build issues being mentioned, I have to admit to being a little underwhelmed with the sgs2 when I first got it. It's the weight of thing I struggle with the most. However I'm now starting to appreciate this as a plus instead of a "it must be cheap" type of feeling. The phone is completely solid with no creaks or squeaks, so no complaints from me there :)

Out of interest what deals did people get with their sgs2? I didn't bother haggling with my upgrade which bothers me a bit now. Basically I get everything I need and more for £30 a month, I just need to make sure I make use of the ridiculous amount of mins I get every month!

I stayed on Flext 40 and got mine for £10

I see the Batista ROM mentions 1080p @ 30fps support - does this mean they aren't using the stock camera app?

Looked like the stock camera app to me when I tried it, and the quality of the recording was a bit crap, lgCamera pro (when it doesn't crash) on Villainrom was much smoother.
