Checked my CS3's the other day and was a bit surprised at the level of wear on them.

Brand new x4 in February this year, fitted to a petrol ST220. Done 7k miles since then.

I drive in a controlled but quick manner - accelerate fairly hard, but light on the brakes, no squealing or anything daft when cornering. (Have been observed by several advanced drivers as a "fast but controlled" driver).

The two fronts are down to about 2-3mm clear of the "bar", the rears are nearly "as new". I was expecting the fronts to wear reasonably quickly due to the car, but was surprised at the rate. I've looked at the tyres and wear is even, with no signs of scrubbing on them.

Judging by wear rate I guess I'd be looking at them being replaced at approx 12k miles. Is that about normal for something like this on a heavy powerful car, or is there a problem somewhere?

Good to know there's not an issue, my wallet is upset though! I got the CS3s on the basis of their performance wet or dry, but is there anything that's nearly as good but has a longer lifespan? If not then I'll just suck it up and pay it, I'm not going to skimp on tyres.

Cheers for the feedback guys.

Michelin PS3 last better.

Same tyres as I have and mine haven't worn quite as quickly as yours but then a good chunk of my driving is motorway / long distances without hooning and I don't tend to accelerate and corner hard when driving to work :p So it sounds about right

I love Vred's but I wouldn't say they're particularly hard wearing....my Focus ST absolutely ate them.

Agreed, I got about 10-12k out of my Vreds, I wouldnt suspect with this guys driving he would get any better wear rates.

Correct me if im wrong, but CS3's are a wear rate of 280 are they not?

Im too lazy to go outside and check but they are quite soft which is obviously how they achieve the AA grip rating also.

It depends very much how you drive, more grip generally equals a softer compound, if you make them work hard, they won't last that well.

I've managed to polish off a set in 8k miles, but if you drive like miss daisy, you could see 15k out of the same tyres.
