Well Battlefield 3 was on show Sunday at i43...I queued but unfortunately did not hang around to get a go due to the TF2 finals.

I did manage to stand behind some people and watch the game play. Without first hand experience of actually playing it appears to be another FPS but it seemed very detailed in graphics. To be honest it reminded me of COD...just a little bit more detailed and realistic it seemed.

I got no confirmation on Beta dates or actual game features...so I guess we will have to wait and see

Yes unfortunately, the map on show was inner city, running around buildings and so on. Yes I was slightly disappointed to think that also :(

Hopefully the Beta will clear this up and have access to some maps with what we all love.

DICE Talks About How Battlefield 3 Uses DirectX 11

Getting straight down to business, Patrick spoke of Frostbite 2, the engine powering Battlefield 3’s fantastic visuals: “We added a ton of stuff – we basically rewrote the rendering engine from scratch to add real-time radiosity on the PC… it produces amazing indoor lighting… for the scale of the maps we implemented new streaming technology, so we make bigger maps than we have ever been able to before.”

Continuing with the tech, Kris quizzed Patrick about one of our favourite topics, DirectX 11. In addition to using effects such as displacement mapping Patrick told us that Battlefield 3 will use Compute Shaders to improve the quality and effectiveness of the engine, and with regards to tessellation, which is “doing great on NVIDIA cards,” the DICE Producer simply says, “tessellation is so sexy!”

Kris then attempts to retrieve system spec information from Patrick, but as loose lips sink ships, and ruin PR plans, Patrick stays mum, though he is happy to say, “you’ll definitely be safe with dual [NVIDIA GTX] 580s in SLI.”

I managed to get in twice to play it :D

It was only a alpha version with Team Deathmatch 4 v 4 but it was enough to confirm that I'm pre-ordering it right now!
If you want more info, we did a post on our blog site straight after

So true

I am surprised that AMD doesn't seem to be taking much interest in this game. Even with crysis 2, wasn't it nvidia supporting it or something like that?

Or does Nvidia have some sort of agreement with EA?

Gutted, I went to Leeds festival and spent all weekend far too hammered to go play in the BF3 tent! Which I heard was pretty good :(

but then I think... beer or BF3?
