Crucial c300 refurbished 30 day warranty!

I've got a 128gb model already, didn't really need one but the offer was just too good - bought a 64Gb one - either for a mate at work, or for my work laptop lol

It depends on the intended use, mission critical and underpinning my work/business then i'd choose something intel. On my personal rig for the odd game, a bit of encoding, Corel etc. I don't have a problem with a drive going down as a re-image from a WHS backup takes minutes and at worst I loose nothing of value. If the drive dies out of warranty i'll argue SOGA within reason but other than that it's a reasonably quick SSD with a low cost per GB from a reasonable manufacturer. I suspect a lot of this is failed f/w upgrades, DSR returns etc. but I do understand peoples reservations about the length of the warranty.

IIRC someone mentioned something about faulty SSDs often needing JTAG'ing and resetting. Probably that.
Yeah, that's probably what's happened to these drives. The early C300 firmware had a nasty habit of bricking the drive for no obvious reason. There's bound to a lot of physically perfect drives that were RMA'd back to Crucial and just need a re-flash to being them back to life.

I'm confident enough in this theory that I bought a 256GB refub. So far it's working fine :)

Crucial might be able to bring them back to life by re-flashing/ re-setting them,
The problem is after 30 days they won't do it again.
some might go on forever some might not make it to the 30 days.
I think they are now M4's rather than c300's to protect the brand,
just call me a sceptic

The firmware bug that caused the bricking has been fixed, so it shouldn't be an issue. Very few problems reported with the C300 these days, it seems to have matured into a solid, reliable drive.

I've not gotten round to installing it yet but my 128gb drive arrived a few days ago. By the looks of things it was originally on firmware 2 but someone has written 6 beside it.

Is 6 the latest? Is it worth flashing to the latest if not?

Looks as if 0007 is the latest; http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx

I'd recommend doing it, Crucials latest for the M4 gave it an increase of around 80-100mb/s sequential speeds. Not saying every firmware update does this, it may not increase speed at all, but read the release notes and they should tell you.
