***** UFC 134: Rio - Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami Official Thread *****

you don't need to swing as hard as you possibly can to knock someone out, just connect in the right place with a decent punch and it's over.

Also, notice how he steps into the jab that knocked Okami down the first time. He steps into it and uses his legs, hips, shoulder and arm together.

bit harsh

This isn't Gd, you can be nice here, we are all ufc fans.

Its ok, I'm used to this sort of attitude on these forums, I even expect it most of the time...people think they can talk to people however they want online.

It's true though I probably don't know anything about mma compared to some of you guys, only been watching a couple of years but I try to watch every single fight now and my top three fighters are GSP, silva, and brock.

I think mma is 10x better and more exciting then boxing.

I know we're all UFC fans but for someone to get something wrong and not spend minutes looking at his wiki page is just daft. Hell even Bruce Buffer announced his fighting record seconds before the fight '4 losses'.

Well thats just what I thought, not a big a deal though...dont lose any sleep over it.

I don't see why the words that come out of my mouth should bother you so much.

I was just really happy because that was the best night of fights I've ever seen in my whole life, in boxing or mma, and so many knockouts and my favourite fighter won!

There's no doubting how talented Silva is. He is one of the best lb for lb fighters in the world. It's his attitude I don't like. He talks about respect but then shows none himself (except for the odd obligatory bow).

Dana White has had some serious words with him regarding his performance. To be honest I wanted to see Silva be the first title holder to get cut. :p

GSP vs Silva? I think GSP would take it. His wrestling is too good and you can bet Gregg Jackson will come up with an amazing gameplan.

GSP has got pretty boring lately but that's for another thread. :p

Sorry mate didn't mean to come across so badly. Bad day yesterday is all. :) It was a great night of fighting alright. :D

Still want to see someone beat Silva though. :p He needs to move up a weight class, Dana White keeps going on about GSP moving up a weight class, but really if he regards Silva as pound for pound best ever, surely it's he who should be moving up and fighting in a new weight class. I would love to see him fighting at 205lb. He gains nothing from fighting a welterweight in GSP and beating him.

I dare say it's written in big, bold letters in his contract that his fight weight is 185. they may offer him fights at 205 but that does not mean he has to take them. Dana did have words with him after the Abu Dhabi debacle. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that dressing room. No doubt he was told he'd be binned after another fight like that, Champ or no.

Silva v GSP is an interesting fight. Both have superb timing and accuracy and are excellent at controlling the distance between fighters. GSP has (iirc) one of, if not the best takedown record in the UFC. He's taken down and controlled some of the best wrestlers in the sport and his striking has improved off the chart so he could possibly pull off what Sonnen couldn't and control him on the floor for all 25 mins. I'd also give the slight cardio edge to GSP. Silva, I would say has the bigger punch power and GSP has shown he can be rocked.

The key as I see it is can GSP control the clinch long enough to do those short push takedowns he likes. If he can't he'll be hurt on the inside enough to want to get away and then smashed as he disengages. If he can do it then I can't see Anderson being able to get up.

Silva v Bones Jones is a 100% stonker. Both hit haaard. Both are unorthodox and both have rag dolled some extremely tough fighters. This is the fight I want to see.

We don't know what's in his contract but I have never heard Dana White state that anyone's contract has fights at a certain weight stated in it. I'm under the impression that you get a contract for x amount of fights and not x amount of fights at x weight. There are plenty of contracted fighters in the UFC who have gone up and down in weight without contracts being modified.

I would love to see Silva v Jones, or even Rashad Evans dropping down to 185lb and taking on Silva.

I dont think GSP would have the strength to hold Anderson Silva down, Chael Sonnen done an excellent job but lets face it, he did need his steroids to help.
GSP struggled taking down Josh Koscheck, and i guess he knew he would thats why he got boxing lessons from the legend himself Freddie Roach before their fight.
Bones against Silva im not sure i would want to see it this early....let the hype build up a bit first and they can make it a super fight.

Maybe they'll save it and make UFC150 a spectacular like 100 was - but that's a year or so away. Two more fights each to keep hold of their respective titles.

Just a quick note to the "Chael Sonnen" on steroids gang. Firstly, I am completely against steroids in competitive sports and anyone who uses them should be banned but....they don't turn someone into a super human hulk. All they do is aid recovery.

Pro MMA fighters train 2-3 times a day, putting their bodies through hell. Roids basically allow them to get through the training sessions. They may be able to lift slightly more, or have slightly better cardio but it will be negligible.

If only Okami was on roids, he's have killed Silva. :p

He wasn't busted for steroids, he was busted for using testosterone replacement therapy. Of which he actually has a "medical condition" for.

He just didn't keep it within the adequate range, much like Nate Marquardt got caught for recently.

Others notables who use/used TRT Dan Henderson and Randy Couture.

Not that I agree with it, just saying it wasn't steroids.

To be fair though the only reason they are on hrt, is because they have used large quantity of steroids in the past.

lol steroid abuse in ufc............ shamrock? lesner? Leben? (although i hate to add lesners name to anything ufc related as he just lays on people)

if you gotta cheat to win by roids? why not drop a weight class and fight smaller guys?

yeh it was a strong finish considering he got slapped about a lil bit before it, he aint as good as he was but nice flurry of punches :P

Hmmm, I cant think of a single fight where Lesnar has just laid on his opponent! He might use his considerable size advantage to nullify the other guy but apart from Heath, who he knocked over with his first punch and went on to ground 'n pound to a decision, the rest of his fights have ended (win or lose) by TKO or submission!

Also, has Lesnar ever been done for 'roids??

lol lesner has shoulders ontop of shoulders, he is either a very lucky man to get a physic to such a size on natural intake.....he has never failled a drug test but tbh its written all over him, im sure i read somewhere he was caught with storoid in trasport boxes of some sort in the late 90s. 97-98

yes i know they are for recovery but its like the elbow or kicking/kneeing a grounded opponent..... 12 to 6 elbow has the same effect as an angled elbow, just because martial artists demonstrated the power of an elbow in a 12 to 6 motion.

to me i have nothin against steroids but if they are against rules then they have to abide by it to make things more even.

He more than likely did take roids in his WWF days, they then would have taken them almost specifically for size as it is important in that sport.

I think most high level pro mma fighters take some sort of PED but if cycled correctly it is very hard to detect.

How is this relevant?
