Hi, I am going to run an ssd in smart response mode in my new build.

It is going to be running in enhanced mode for increased safety, so write speeds do not matter too much, only read speeds.

Also a maximum capacity of 64gb and a minimum capacity of 30gb please.

I am not willing to budge on price I'm afraid, £70 is the absolute maximum, so I am not expecting the very best.

I was previoulsy looking at the vertex 2 40gb for around £62, however the reliability of ocz drives leaves much to be desired.

I have also looked at the agility 3, which seems to be the fastest for my money, but there are WAY too many reports of early faliure for my liking.

Kingston or crucial ssd's seem to be the most reliable.

Little help please guys?

It would be silly to discount the Crucial, especially with the new firmware, for the sake of £7.

*sorry jokester, slipped my mind entirely. :(*

the crucial real ssd looks like a good option, however i might opt for the vertex 2 as its a lot cheaper..

how do the read speeds compare?

Take into account that the Crucial is the most reliable one out there at the moment. The OCZ ones use the Sandforce controller which is known for it's problems.

what controller do the crucial drives use?

Ultimate hippocracy... I just ordered my rig, including a vertex 2 for a brill price... can't go wrong at £51..

*sigh*

Yes I know it can haha, that's not what I meant :p

Its running smart response enhanced mode, so if it dies I can get it RMA'd without having to stop using the pc.

It has far fewer faliure reports than most other sandforce drives.

I disagree, I've had 3 SSD's first was a Crucial when they first came out, it was absolutely terrible write speed was under 1Mb/s. Put me off for a while, then I got a Vertex 2E which has been fantastic, now in my flat mates rig still going strong. I'm currently running an Agility 3 which is insanely fast, and apart from it disappearing once(which was my fault, for loading a saved UEFI profile that was created before the drive was installed) it's been solid as a rock.
Maybe there is a problem with some drives, but it's only a small percentage.
All items of hardware are prone to failure, no matter who makes them :(

Thankyou for saying what I was too tired to string together myself xD

If you base the reliability of OCZ drives on reports from OcUK forum members, then yes 90% OF ALL OCZ DRIVES EVER have failed.

I must be the only one where mine is still going strong with 98% life left :D
