*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

There were a lot of Jedi Consular videos on betacake a while back - not sure where they are now.

I personally found the Sith Warrior and Inquisitor much better than the Jedi knight and Consular - both in terms of visuals (powers and armour) and story. Imo they have made the Jedi very wimpy and seemingly squishy with little substance. The Sith on the other hand were an absolute blast to play as. Just my opinion.

Gotta agree on the visuals, the whole lightning/electric attack from the Sorc just makes it more awesome than throwing pebbles, psychic attacks and engine rubble with the sage :p
Makes me want to yell POWERRRRRRRRRR, UNLIMITED POWERRRRRRRRRRRRR each time.

But I think some of the higher tier Sith Warrior gear looks ripped from an 8 year olds scrap book.

Thats what i orginaly thought, So wasnt interesting in this game, But someone said to me that it has a world to fight over so kind of Orvr. But if its the same old wow model, Then bring on GW2!! :D

They keep claiming to have it, but dont want to talk about it, they've said something about 'objectives' in the world, but they wont say what they are, where they are, and what capturing/holding them may actually involve, last I heard it wasn't in game in any form and as far as I know still isn't.

GUTTED Bf3 is out simular time to this! Really wanted to throw myself into an MMO! At least i'l be able to cane BF3 for a while and see what people think of the game!

Whats the overall thought on how good this game will be ?

AoC or WoW?

The kind of idiots that have been allowed into beta:

** Image contains swearing - Please read the FAQs ***

that surely is a windup ? got a link to the thread please mate ?

PvP sounds heavily Guild Wars influenced with confirmed Arena based matches, Huttball - think American footy with traps, Siege based PvP, same faction v faction matches, PvP servers. They also confirmed that you can level up via Questing or PvP and to some extent even crafting :p

Yeah, that bugged me big time - it almost sounded like DaoC frontiers type of stuff, which would be a huge draw for me, and then not a sausage about it since.

Don't rule out non-melee charactersv - the trooper and bounty hunter type classes are surprisingly good.

Well I think I just have to be some kind of jedi or sith with a lightsaber, just for the look and the feel lol, and from what everyone has said the sith story and special effects seem better so might want to go that route to begin with even though I would have preferred to have been a jedi.

When I watched the films throughout my life I always said I'd love to be a jedi and now is my chance, but it might just turn out to be more fun in TOR to play as sith and use words like "jedi scum!" lol

I'm kinda thinking I want to be ranged like a mage/warlock in wow, so that means I'd either be jedi consular or sith inquisitor I believe...as they have everything I want, force powers/lightsaber/ranged.

EDIT: Looking at the screenshots above, I so hope they add quite a lot of mobs from the films for us to kill both in quest and bosses, it would be great fun to kill the same mobs you've seen in the films such as the droids/troopers/jedi and some creatures I dont know the names of. Also eventually I hope they add a lot more races from the original star wars movies and maybe from the books too.

I find the best way to get a good general, new experience for an MMO is to choose a class out of your comfort zone, for me, i tend to get more involved when i'm playing a class out of my comfort zone, rather than play the same style of character in every MMO.

I've been looking at playing some kind of tanking class as I've never played one before, although with the likelihood that plenty of WoW elitists will jump over to this game, there may be less tolerance for me being rubbish at it than there would in most other new MMO releases. Meh, **** 'em.

I certainly found a lot of people in Rift that just expected you to know what you were doing from the get-go, which is why I ended up playing a similar role to the one I had in WoW, as I knew I'd be competent.

Is it this week that a large number of EU invites are meant to go out?

Would be great to have a larger number of OcUKers testing :)

November still seems like a likely release date, shame it will probably clash with Skyrim :(

I hope so as we waiting for ours, still not come yet, even tho we got a email about it almost 3 weeks ago

NB bet out little reporter spy sprinting to report I said this ... ahh its a DOGS life :p

I don't know what I'll end up playing to be honest - jedi shadow, trooper commando, agent sniper and both the smuggler variants look really interesting.

If i do end up playing it, considering everyone will either be a Jedi or a Bounty Hunter, i'll probably go with something like a Smuggler, or an Imperial Agent.

Oh don't worry, there are plenty of mobs to grind :p (on the plus side, at least there are bonus XP quests for killing them!)

I wanted to play as an Imperial Agent Sniper first time around, but my guild have all decided to go Republic and none of them have chosen Jedi Knight. So I thought I'd fill the gap. Only problem is, I can imagine the sheer load of Jedi wannabes running around like crazy on launch... I dont fancy competing for mobs and stuff.

The Old Republic won't be The Old Republic if it takes elements from Episode 1 to Episode 6 of the Star Wars movies as well as the books, same goes for the races, as this is the era of The Old Republic, not The Republic you saw during the time of The Clone Wars, or The New Republic from after Episode 6, it wouldn't make any sense as this is a time in the past where things were considerably different, just like the real world today is different from the past.

I have played quite a few different classes on here and I got to say the Trooper was by far and away the most fun.

Which I must say surprised me as all the reading I did about it sounded a pretty boring class ...far from it.

When I go in n again I will play the Jedi Knight and save the trooper as most likely my main when the games out.

People have talked about the graphics being bad, and the 100% voice acting which is good, but has anyone here who has played the beta got any opinion on the music? I know some people will most likely turn background music off, but one of the great things about star wars was the music and it would be nice to know if swtor has some great music to go along with it.
