Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting a smallish SSD for my dell Win XP laptop, something like a 30 or 40GB, but as Win XP doesn't use the Trim feature, is it worth it or can I manually do something to keep it working at peak efficiency?

Thanks :)

Well both intel and ocz have garbage collection/cleaning tools but really, you want w7 with rim to be quite frank.

Thanks for the info :)

I doubt the laptop would handle Win 7 tbh, its a few years old, I just wanted to use a smallish SSD to speed up the general use of it, mainly for Windows & net surfing :)

There's a chance that if it wouldn't be capable of running Windows 7 then it will also not have SATA and could have IDE :(

A review of Kingston V+100 on AnandTech stated it was good at maintaining performance, but also mentioned concerns about it too on the first page.

Samsung have a tool called Magician Software that includes an on-demand Performance Optimization feature for XP. If went for a Samsung 470 series drive (Need to check if available for other models besides 470 series).
