Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

Difficult to say really - I went on a RR day but everyones cars (Honda's across the board) failed to make expected power on the day (stock cars didn't come near stock figures ~20bhp down).

Wasn't really sure what to make of it but mine made 17bhp more than a looked after stock example on the day and was one of 2 or 3 cars that made stock power on the day (albeit with mods).

They are essentially B18C6's in a lower state of tune but with several notable differences. Mainly a different OBD loom and ECU, dual stage inlet manifold opposed to the single one on ITR's - butterflies open at 4500rpm, VTEC at 5800rpm I think. B18C6 had port and polish, higher compression, different cams and valve springs amongst other stuff.

Parts are transferable but to be honest I think you are much better off doing an engine swap or supercharging if you want more out of it.

Ah right, I see didn't know they had dual stage inlet manifolds, learn something new everyday haha.

Will look into it a little more, is it possible to strap a supercharger to the b18c4? Or would a whole engine swap be needed for it? I wouldn't look to get one as it's really costly, but curious to know.

And sorry for going off topic.

They can be picked up cheap yes, around a grand and a half for a decent one. Very low maintenance as well, parts aren't too bad priced either for a honda!
Mine's had a bit more than Gayjin's old one done to it but not much more. Never really had it on a rolling road but performance wise it'll sit side by side with a clio 182 thats had exhaust + filter done (in a straight line anyway!)
If your getting an MB6 put a half decent filter on it, take out the cat, and if you have enough money put a 4-2-1 manifold and stainless system on it. It'll sound much better and will make it much more lively.
Yes the gearboxes are crap ratios, but an S80 or similar box is now worth more than the car is for a good one, but don't worry these have an LSD as standard and believe me in the wet and especially in the snow it makes a difference.
If you want more info on them look on civic5.com, great group of people on there.
I've had mine for over 5 years and 50k miles and I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.
Don't bother spending a fortune on tuning etc as Gayjin said, just buy an DC2 if you want the Type R experience, but £500 could be spent to get the most out of an MB6.

I would buy a DC2, however it's just not practical for me as I need 5 doors. Wil look on that forum thanks.

I don't think going off topic is a problem in this thread given all the mess and bickering currently in here.

It's very possible to supercharge them, jackson racing and comptech all do solutions if I recall clearly. No swap required. Looking at approx £3k for someone to do it for you though.

Those pics bring back some memories Gaijin.

I've had a couple of MB6's I much preffered them over the EK4's of which i've also owned. If you are after an MB6 Vita you cant really go wrong theres plenty about, get one with good history and solid arches and it'll go on forever.

Dont bother buying one to spend money on though you might as well just get something quicker in the first place, I spent some serious money on mine, a grand on an exhaust system for example, totally not worth it

Really not sure why Evo slate the Corolla so much, it really isnt anything like what they describe

Be rude not to, I really miss this car, it wasnt the quickest car but I have some great memories of it, and some credit card bills. Its not a VTI-S but the only thing the S had over the VTI was body kit, different wheels and pirates black pearl paint

Why 5, kids?

If not then 3 doors are livable and the nickname vantegra is there for a reason!

No kids, no wife. I just prefer the space of a five door as I sometimes have to carry passengers around and it's convenient for me then.

I've come out of Hiding, No more discussion of Toyotas please :p

Still on the hunt for a car, although I'm being very picky now. I only seem to be interested in the Premiers due to lovely looking seats!

I've got these two in mind, the Cosmic Grey is a very well looked after motor (price is actually £7250) but the sprayed wheels are putting me off.

Am I being stupid for looking at such high priced cars? I'm after something that has been treated with love, that will hold its value well. Something that I can look at purchasing without regret,

Black one looks good! They will hold their prices, a lot are getting written off at the moment, so I'm guessing if anything there value will increase in due course.

However I wouldn't pay that much, £6k tops for a really nice example, but I find one hard to find, £7k is just to excessive for a Type-R EP3 imo.

IIRC the Premier Edition seats sell for around £800 second hand Vita, so I guess that's where the premium price comes in.

£7k seems a lot of money for me too! The Cosmic has had it's 50k service done (Valve clearances etc) which says a lot to me... but it's still a lot of money!!

I prefer the Recaro's in the DC2's/DC5's tbh. Don't know why, personal choice.

Tbh, £7k could get you some other cars as well, even a DC5, might not be the best of DC5's but sometimes you can find some good examples for some cheap price.

Imo £7k is a lot of money for a 200bhp car, even if it has been looked after very well. I say spend £5k get a nice one which you'd like and not dwell over the cost. Fun and smiles can be had in a cheaper price. If you do plan to keep it a while and look after it for say 3/4years then of course, splash out on a very nice example. But if you just want the fun for a short time then don't.

Imo that's way too much for a breadvan.

That's nearly DC5 money as you have said, or you could get a sorted DC2 and pocket £2k to put towards maintenance and other running costs.

Vita, I know you mentioned earlier about wanting 5drs as 'I sometimes transport people around', but do you really let a big factor in your car decision making process be giving people easier access into the back? Really!!! Forget about them, it's easy enough to get a few people in the back of a 3dr and you should really be focusing on yourself and not on how good your car is as a taxi ;)

Lol, my mother is not keen on 3drs. However, it still won't stop me buying a DC2 next year. She'll come around the idea. I even been looking at EP3's, however only thing which stops me having one now is insurance. And because I don't have other people I could put as named drivers on the policy, I'll just have to wait till next year or even the year after.

Sounds complicated.

Her car, shared car?

For ***** sake, What is it with this thread? Five pages of people discussing the Toyota Corrola, and now people starting talk of sex with woman in Integra Type Rs :(

Oh, and I emailed this guy > http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3161454.htm , Seeing as the car is localish. I asked if he had the service history... apparantly It was last serviced at 37,500 miles. Poor Poor Type R!!!

Is it that it simply wasn't serviced, or that he self-serviced it?

If it's unserviced, then obviously DO NOT WANT!! The odd self-service would not put me off. I did one on my own CTR when it only required a minor service (oil/filters etc). Mine's on 80K and hasn't been near a Honda dealer for servicing in 40K. However, I don't plan on getting rid any time soon, so it doesn't bother me.
