Sat in a Lexus LFA today.

The Lexus LFA Nurburgring edition is faster still at 7:14.64 :p

Was just about to post this!

Haters are going to hate. Most people that will go "lol at 350K toyota" either are jealous or abit of arse.

Anyone who buys a LFA will buy it for it's performance and technology and probably because it is an exotic oddball.

Surely a guy who can afford a 350k LFA can afford a 120K lambo to pose in during the week so the less well informed can dribble over it ;)

I don't know why anyone would buy an LFA then buy a cheap Lambo for weekends or whatever :p

LFA every day!

Well some say the V10 lambo sounds better than the LFA :p

In all seriousness I do very much like the LFA but I can see it has stiff competition from the like of the Aventador in terms of OMG to Price ratio.

I don't think I will ever understand why people in this country look down upon the Lexus brand as if it is any less of a premium marquee compared to say the likes of Audi and BMW. Nowhere else in the world seems to suffer from snobery towards the brand.

How about you take the standard LFA lap time by Horst Von Saurma

7:38

vs

Porsche 911 GT3 RS driven by the same guy

7:33

Because that is an unfair test, Horse Von Whatsit may be an avid 911 fan wheras that may have been the first day he'd ever driven an LFA, I think Lexus's best test driver vs Porsche's best test driver is much fairer as both drivers know the car like the back of their hand so neither manufacturer has an advantage.

2012 GT-R is still faster at 7:24.22 :p

The LFA can do it in 7:14

It puzzles me too, Lexus (Toyota), Acura (Honda) and Infinity (Nissan) are all considered top brand most places, my father always buys Lexus because in his words its a noticeably higher class of car than the Mercedes he used to buy. Tbh I reckon the people who would diss the LFA as being just a Toyota are the ones that diss the NSX as being just a Honda despite the fact it was better than a Ferrari twice the price in every single way imaginable bar badge value.

I'd be inclined to agree, but it's also not a bad thing, keeps prices down, what are you looking at for a fully loaded, 3 year old audi A4 / bmw 3 series with premium audio (Bose / logic 7), full colour nav, heated leather, reversing camera etc etc compared to a lexus similarly specced. The lexus will always be cheaper by quite a margin, yet, you get bulletproof reliability, excellent build quality, maybe questionable toyota plastics (:().

I certainly wouldn't turn one down, but i've heard that fuel consumption, especially in the diesels, isn't that economical, even though the IS220D has a claimed 44mpg combined, which isn't that bad imo. The drive alsoisn't as good as that of a BMW, but neither is that of an audi. I drove an A6 yesterday, and the steering was so light, after driving my BMW, i can now see what a lot of people say about Audis vague steering, no feel of the road, i never noticed that in my A3 though but in the A6 yesterday, it felt like i was driving on ice!

The only people who worry about someone saying "oh have you bought the Lexus/Ford/Nissan" when they drive a super car are the kinds of people who can't afford one and are projecting their current insecurities, and probably will never be able to afford one.

This is the kind of person who I am guessing that kind of humour is aimed at during Top Gear, as its a way of levelling with the mass population who watch it who will never drive these kinds of cars unless they spend 1/4 of their monthly pay cheque on an "experience" day.

Oh I'm totally having a wind up, I think as an engineering exercise it's pretty cool, but I just can't in any way shape or form get excited or interested about it. Even the GTR gets me more excited than this thing. It's not bonkers, it doesn't have the pedigree of a proper super car to make up for it. It doesn't, in my eyes anyway, look like it should cost any more than a Aston or a Porsche.

Watching it go past I will never be able to think that it was a wise purchase or one that would be potentially as pleasurable as something like a SLR 722 or a Lambo Aventador or for that matter something like a Koenigsegg or a Carrera GT. It just doesn't get the heart going...

As for insecurities - 99% of the people on this forum that express a like or dislike for a supercar are unable to afford one or will ever be able to afford one so spare me your pontifications over my right to express an opinion.

And on this very forum you get people saying Porches are boring when they drive VW Golfs, people are dumb, this forum gives us many an example.

Having driven a number of Porches I can agree - they go nowhere and have only one door typically... I think you're being a little uncharitable in saying that they're dumb.

And a talk with one of the engineers:

I think that sums it up pretty much :)
