Last night I was stopped by the police for being drunk

HAHA LOL

It use to be funny a decade ago.

Actually I'll have to correct myself there...

It wasn't even funny a decade ago.

Try rewording it muppet

I just spark up a nice fat joint of the freshest and finest cheese ever, completely in 100% control of my actions and the POLICE came round the corner on a pushbike and hands me a fine. Whereas a known racist (sorry don't know what else to describe you as) completely smashed to the point of short-memory loss and not being able to ride a bike gets a free lift home, in TWO police cars. TWO!

Oink oink oink. Pigs huh?

There are two specific offences for riding a cycle whilst drunk

Section 30 Road traffic Act 1988, if the rider is incapable of controlling the cycle

and

Section 12 of the Licensing Act 1872 which makes it an offence of being drunk in charge of a bicycle - maximum fine of £200, or one months imprisonment.

To be honest although an Offence it seems like the Officers have used their discretion and removed you from any danger - it's likely two cars were used due to not being able to fit both you and your bike into one vehicle.

A few minutes out of their way, one member of the public who is safe and some Officers who can go out and deal with some real crime, rather than dealing with a load of paperwork. I think that is a result.

How I interpreted it:
"(I've) Been a complete idiot when drunk; deserve time in cells."

You could be right!

It's all over these forums, people saying been when the mean being. I assume it's due to the way they talk and regional accents making them sound identical which confuses people.

I wasn't aware that written English had a regional accent. I would say it is a lack of adequate education, with the occasional exception for those with a learning difficulty or the occasional typo.

It doesn't, I just said that I assume people make the mistake because when they speak they sound the same and this leads to confusion when writing the word down.

Unlike people who can talk properly and pronounce them as two separate words :p
