why are magic mushrooms illegal

They never were until people started marketing them as a cheap high.
Halucinogens are not toys.

They should be taken by people who understand what they are to some extent, and understand the potential psychological consequences. Not sold openly as a cheap thrill.

Evidently the Mario quote doesn't convey my jest!

@ Tefal - Still, I *knew* somebody would start comparing this to alcohol. One beer doesn't turn somebody into a looney, one shroom could and did. Besides, stop putting opinions in my mouth, where did I excuse or say all those other things were OK? I hate it when people do or imply that or use to to try and make another point seem silly or pathetic

@ chaosdestro0 - Again the alcohol point - if somebody was to get so battered out of their face they turned into that fair enough, again this wont happen with sensible usage. Where did I say it did represent everybody? People in this thread have taken them and I know people who have and they are fine. It's all about the risk factor

@ RadoX - Dont judge a book by his cover. Not saying he wasn't mind but "looking at" somebody is a bit short sighted

Before I get more quotes and arguments at my comments I'm not saying it happens all the time, yes it was probably isolated but it was most definitely caused by the shrooms this time. Like all drugs, if it could be controlled and the effects more guaranteed then I'm sure it would be legalised. As we all know the chances of this happening are next to none

That's horse ****.

Give someone a clean pill of E once a weekend and someone else 8 pints.

I bet the guys with the E would be healthier after 10 years

I once took mushrooms and walked up table mountain and watched a solar eclipse. Was the most spiritual experience of my life.

We arrived at the base of the mountain at about 23:30 or 12 and took 2 grams of dried psilocybe cubensis. There was me two friends and a german guy called sven. The solar eclipse was scheduled for 8-10am. So we had a lot of time to get up there. We walked slowly stopping a long the way to smoke some bongs and enjoy the view.

We reached the top at around 6 or 7 am and sat there blowing our heads off at the views. We had a tiny tinfoil piece from a coffee lid that we were using to look at the sun with. We watched as the moon passed in front of the sun.

I thought this was going to be ended with ...then I woke up on the sofa. That story is too epic

I had half a shroom shake at mellow mountain bar in thailand on haat rin beach. At firstI got really dizzy then started seeing stuff like a giant whale in the sea, a dragon in the floor of the concrete and in a cafe the floor looked like a castle

We couldnt handle it so went back to chill, in the taxi it was like riding the nemesis rollercoaster! The most epic taxi ride of my life. Back where we were staying I chilled out on the beach until 4am looking at clouds.

In all an interesting experience, however I certainly needed less input (noise, music etc) People say the same thing about acid (that urban tripping is a crazy unless you have had years of experience)

Opium tea in Laos was where it was at. Watching family guy in a crappy old bar was one of the best things ever. No paranoia that I sometimes get from cannabis, great sleep and fine the next day

erm no it did not.

i doubt you'd even notice if you'd taken one mushroom.

that would be like having one sip of a beer and claiming it got you blind drunk.

So now we know your story is bull*** we can move on. :)

Why 8 pints?

Seriously, I've nothing really against drugs, but people continually bleating on about drugs being better than alcohol annoy me. Alcohol is a very sociable drug that can be abused like most things. I'd much rather a society where we'd sit down and have a few beers than one where we're popping pills.

But that's happened less and less for the last 50 years. They have a place in many none "modern" societies - and don't cause these problems as they are a healthy part of the culture where you have a strong support group around you. In the sixties in the west those ideals were still part of the whole experience, but nowadays it's just a cheap way of getting off your nuts - and that's unhealthy.

Can someone please explain to me why psilocybin mushrooms have never killed anyone or made anyone insane yet they are class A drugs the same as heroin and crack cocaine, drugs that actually are addictive and kill people ? I truly belive they are a alien interface device placed on earth by aliens. why else would they be illegal ?

Because they alter peoples consciousness and change peoples thought patterns in a way that isn't beneficial for the power structures on earth.

Are you not thinking of the opium wars with china?

There are lots of theories, some that it conflicted with the alcohol trade, another that the invention of a "combine harvester" equivalent machine for hemp would have destroyed the cotton industry when it was still a major player in the worlds politics
.

AAhh that sounds more like it!!!

I agree with harder rules on things like shrooms, as if they are so easy to get hold of, people are less likely to fully understand what it is they are letting themselves in for. Imo, its akin to scrapping the driving test, and just letting people battle it out on the roads.

Everybody knows shrooms are the staple diet of the illuminate lizard race. They want them all for themselves, hence why they are outlawed to the general public.

And Ecstasy isnt a social drug. lol

Trust me, if the government was to control ecstasy, so that you could be in a room with 100 other people and take 1/2 a pill, you would make 90 new friends!

I said 8 pints because thats the general amount a lot of people would need to be drunk.

Whilst Mephedrone 'MCAT' was legal I took it about once a month, sometimes twice, for maybe 6 months. I had some awesome times and made a few new friends. Didnt do anyone any harm, felt a bit crap the next day but no worse than a hangover. Now its illegal the quality is terrible and its mixed with all sorts of crap. Well done government!

I know two blokes who did a few too many mushrooms, and ended up needing professional psychological help - one was sectioned. You have to ask yourself if it's worth it ?

You *doubt* so you don't actually know, don't make calls on something you don't know. And you quite clearly mentioned alcohol in your post.

Ignore the story all you want, can't deny the shrooms led to that. So yes now that's cleared up lets move on!

However I'd still want alcohol to be more prevelant, I personally (it's all my opinion, not presenting facts here) feel that it's a lot more natural and leads to a lot greater fun. ;)

Agreed on the mephedrone front, I thought banning it they the way they did was a bit to cynical! Nasty stuff though, people really did abuse it sometimes :D

Was so so so cheap as well.
